About this race
Race Overview
We are so excited to be back for our second year!
Location
- Setting: Located in the beautiful Southwestern Chihuahuan Desert.
- Course: This race takes you through the canyon south of the Living Desert Zoo & Gardens on State Park and city land.
- Participants: Open to runners, hikers, ruckers, and walkers.
- Challenge Options: Participate in 1 of 3 challenges: 1 hour, 4 hour, or 8 hour challenge.
Course Details
- Loop: Complete as many 2-mile trail loops (out-and-back) as possible or desired.
- Aid Stations: Carlsbad Roadrunners will provide support including 2 aid stations: 1 at the half-way point and 1 at the bottom of the hill.
- Trail Information: The race is fully contained to the Ocotillo Trail, approximately 2 miles (3.21 km) long with approx. 229 ft. (69.79 m) elevation gain.
- Parking: Please use available parking at SENMC and overflow at other campus parking lots within reasonable walking distance.
Race Day Information
- Date: 2026-11-07.
- Event Location: Upper Parking lot at SENMC (32.442401, -104.266905) Carlsbad, NM 88220.
- Start Time: All categories will start promptly at 8 am.
- Registration: Packet pick-up and registration on race morning from 7 am - 7:45 am.
Timing and Awards
- Categories: 1 hour (completed by 9 am), 4 hour (completed by 12 pm), 8 hour (completed by 4 pm).
- Relay Teams: Will switch off as often as desired at the trailhead of the race.
- Finishers: Awards will be given to the top finisher (male, female) with the most distance covered.
- Proceeds: Event proceeds will be donated to Affirming Heart Victim Services.
Health and Safety
- Medical Assistance: Medical staff will be available at any time.
- Communications: Radio personnel positioned at the 1 mile mark.
- Participant Welfare: Officials can withdraw runners who appear distressed or at risk.
- Notification: Please notify a race official if you cannot finish for any reason.
Important Notes
- Race Bibs: Solo participants will receive a bib number that must be visible on race day.
- Weather Policy: No refunds for race cancellation due to severe weather, but proceeds go to a good cause!
