Ocotillo Trail Endurance Challenge

Race Overview

We are so excited to be back for our second year!

Located in the beautiful Southwestern Chihuahuan Desert, this race takes you through the canyon south of the Living Desert Zoo & Gardens on State Park and city land. Open to runners, hikers, ruckers, and walkers, you can participate in 1 of 3 challenges: 1 hour, 4 hour, or 8 hour challenge.

• Challenge Options: 1 hour, 4 hour, or 8 hour challenge.
• Loop Details: Complete as many 2-mile trail loops (out-and-back) as possible or desired.
• Aid Stations: Provided by Carlsbad Roadrunners; 1 at the half-way point and 1 at the bottom of the hill.
• Event Purpose: Perfect for those wanting to attempt a longer distance or complete an ultra.

• Event Location: Upper Parking lot at SENMC (32.442401, -104.266905) Carlsbad, NM 88220.
• Parking: Use SENMC parking (covered parking available), overflow at other campus lots.
• Trail Info: Approx. 2 mile (3.21 km) out and back trail with approx. 229 ft. (69.79 m) of elevation gain.

Race Day Information

All race categories will start promptly at the designated race times listed below. Please allow plenty of time to arrive at the start line.

• Start Time: All categories begin at 8 am.
• 1 Hour Challenge: Starts at 8:00 am (completed by 9 am).
• 4 Hour Challenge: Starts at 8:00 am (completed by 12 pm).
• 8 Hour Challenge: Starts at 8:00 am (completed by 4 pm).

Packet Pick-up and Bib Information

Packet pick-up and registration will only be available on the morning of the event, from 7 am to 7:45 am.

• Race Bib Requirement: Each solo participant will receive a race bib number that must be worn on race day.
• Bib Visibility: Your bib number must be visible and worn on the front of all clothing during the entire race.
• Transfer Policy: Bib numbers are transferable by request and must be worn by the designated runner.
• Notification Requirement: If you cannot finish, notify a race official with your bib number.

Medical Assistance

Medical staff members will be ready to assist you at any time, with communications personnel at the 1 mile mark on the course.

• Withdrawal Policy: Event officials may withdraw any runner who appears distressed or at risk.
• Medical Area Availability: You will be directed to medical at the finish line if you have any issues.
• Health Notification: Notify race officials if you cannot finish for any reason.

Awards and Proceeds

This is a timed event with awards for top finishers based on distance covered. The first place team for the 4 hour and 8 hour relay will be based on total distance.

• Awards: Given to the top finishers (male, female) determined by gun time.
• Team Consideration: Relay teams are not determined by gender.
• Proceeds: Event proceeds will be donated to a local Carlsbad charity.
• Cancellation Policy: No refunds if severe weather causes race cancellation.
