Sunday, August 9th, 2026
Join us on Sunday, August 9, 2026, for the Kelly LaBare 5K Run/Walk, proudly supported by Binghamton’s annual Spiedie Fest & Balloon Rally. This exciting race brings together the Binghamton community and the surrounding area, attracting both novice runners and talented athletes from across the region and the state. Held at Otsiningo Park, the course is fast and flat—ideal for anyone chasing a personal record. Registration is required as we come together to honor Kelly LaBare’s legacy.
Kelly LaBare was a radiant soul whose presence lit up every path she ran. With her effortless stride, flowing blonde ponytail, and steady rhythm, she became a familiar and inspiring figure in the Upstate New York running community. By her side was often her younger brother and biggest fan, Byron—her loyal companion in both life and sport.
A premier road runner and passionate advocate for education, Kelly lived with purpose and compassion. In 1997, her life was tragically cut short by a sudden heart condition at just 25 years old. Even so, her legacy reaches far beyond her athletic accomplishments. She was known for her humility, grace, determination, and deep care for others.
Grounded in a strong spiritual foundation, Kelly pursued her dreams wholeheartedly. She graduated with high honors from Cornell University and touched countless lives through her kindness, character, and unwavering dedication to her goals. Surrounded by the love of family and friends, she lived intentionally and inspired others to do the same.
Each year, in August, we gather for the Kelly LaBare 5K – Celebration of Life Run/Walk to honor her memory. More than a race, it is a tribute to her spirit, a celebration of community, and a way to keep her light shining. Kelly’s legacy continues to carry us forward, and with every step we take, we are reminded of the words that reflect her journey:
“…And let us run with endurance the race that God has set before us…” (Hebrews 12:1–3).
“I have fought the good fight; I have finished the race…” (2 Timothy 4:7)
