About this race

Welcome to the Monster of Mazinaw Trail Race 2026

Join us for Canada's SHORTEST ultramarathon at 43 km (but it will FEEL like A LOT longer!)

We are proud to announce that this event is sanctioned by Athletics Ontario.

Event Partner

  • Partner: We are thrilled to announce that we are partnering with La Sportiva for our events this year.
  • Demos: La Sportiva will be at our races with their demo fleet of shoes to try.
  • Giveaway: They will also be giving away 2 pairs of shoes!

Nutrition

  • Local Partner: We are working with a local nutrition company called THN Labs.
  • Gels: Each runner will receive gels in their race kit, as well as gels available at our aid stations.
  • Ingredients: The gels contain only 4 ingredients: maple syrup, tahini, sea salt, and rowanberry extract.
  • More Info: For more information on the product, click here.

Race Location

We could not be more excited to be offering a race at Bon Echo Provincial Park; one of Ontario's most beautiful Provincial Parks! This unique race has been a dream of ours for quite some time and will have participants run on a wide variety of terrain ranging from wide groomed trails to technical and rocky single track, but let's be honest here, there is a lot more technical single track than there is wide groomed trails!

Race Details

  • Trail Conditions: A large section of the 30k and 43k events take place on back-country trails that are very challenging; even for experienced trail runners.
  • Preparation: Runners must be self-reliant through sections that may exceed 12-14km without aid.
  • Experience: This race is best suited for runners with trail running experience.
  • Course Markings: Rest assured, it will be very well-marked.

Self-Reliance Expectation

There will definitely be a section of this course where the distance between aid stations is further than most Ontario races - possibly even up to 17 km. Runners are expected to be self-reliant on these sections and should have a hydration pack.

Aid Stations

  • Standard Offerings: Runners can expect the usual ultra staples - water, an electrolyte drink, PB & J, sweet and salty snacks.
  • Cup-less Events: Please note all Happy Trails Racing events are cup-less so you will need to have a collapsible cup or bottle.

Cut-off Time

We're giving you a very generous 8hrs to complete this sucker because we want you to focus on the unbelievable beauty around you rather than whether or not you are going to make the cut-off. If you don't think you can complete the course in 8hrs, you can start early (anytime after 7:00am).

Race Swag

After the race, you can throw on the SWEET tee (available in Unisex and Women's Cut). Runners will have the option to choose either during the registration process. Please note, the women's cut shirts do tend to fit a bit small, so sizing up may be advisable.

Wildlife

Keep your eyes open and you may be fortunate enough to see bears, moose, black bear, porcupine, skunks, raccoon, coyote, fisher, marten, river otter, peregrine falcon, great horned owl, and white-tailed deer.

Registration Information

  • Participant Limit: We are only allowing 250 participants.
  • Camping: Ontario Parks allow camping reservation 5 months in advance starting April 19, 2026.
  • Family Event: This is a great event to bring the family to and stay for the weekend.
  • Registration Fee Includes:
    • Wicked tee
    • Race bib
    • Custom finisher's medal (for those that complete the race)
    • Food and drinks at aid stations

Mazinaw Rock

Mazinaw Rock is recognized as a National Historic Site of Canada due to the 260 red ochre painted pictographs. Check out some drone footage here.

The Mazinaw Monster Legend

Did you know that for hundreds of years there have been rumours of a lake monster in the waters around Mazinaw Rock? Stories of the Mazinaw creature describe it as black and about 20-40 feet long, eel-like with ridges along its back. Could ancient creatures still lurk in the depths?

Refund Policy

Happy Trails Racing has a great policy regarding race refunds/transfers: register with confidence knowing that you can take advantage of our early bird pricing and, if you need to back out, you can do so up to 30 days before the race with a 100% race credit towards any future Happy Trails event.
