Course Description
- Terrain: The course is almost entirely downhill with one challenging hill from mile 2.00 to 2.56 miles, featuring a 169 ft gain.
- First 12 Miles: These miles from Cement Ridge to Savoy are on runnable improved gravel roads, showcasing scenic mountain meadows, valleys, and canyons while dropping 1,606 ft.
- Landmark: Runners will pass the winter film site for “Dances with Wolves” at mile 9.35!
- Final Stretch: The remaining 14 miles are on hardtop, descending along Spearfish Canyon Hwy (Rt 14A, a National Scenic Byway) to Spearfish, dropping another 1,364 ft.
Certification
- USATF Certified: This fast course is one of only two USATF Certified Courses in Wyoming, making it a Boston Qualifying Course.
- State Count: The marathon counts towards either Wyoming or South Dakota qualifying, giving participants a choice.
