About this race
Kylie’s Journey
- Diagnosis: In early 2018, as a freshman in high school, Kylie Schutzmann was diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare and aggressive form of cancer.
- Hope: After months of treatment, strength, and determination, Kylie and her family finally heard the words everyone hopes for—she was cancer free.
- Recurrence: In October of 2025, during one of her routine annual checkups, doctors noticed something concerning on a scan, leading to heartbreaking news: her cancer had returned after seven years.
- New Treatment: Kylie was told she would need to begin another eight months of chemotherapy in hopes of eliminating the cancer once again.
Family Challenges
- Generational Battle: When Kylie’s mom was pregnant with her, she was diagnosed with cancer and had to give birth early for treatment.
- Cycle of Treatment: Kylie faced her own diagnosis as a teenager. Now, with the recurrence, the family is facing chemotherapy for the third time.
- Emotional Weight: The emotional burden of this journey is heavy, compounded by significant financial strain.
- Faith: Despite the challenges, Kylie has remained strong in her faith in Jesus and continues to inspire those around her.
Financial Strain
- Travel Costs: Kylie must travel about three and a half hours to Spokane for appointments and treatments, often staying for several days.
- Ongoing Expenses: The rising costs of gas, hotels, and food add up while managing ongoing medical expenses.
- Employment: Both of Kylie’s parents work in education, yet the financial demands of cancer treatment make this journey incredibly difficult.
- Support Request: Donations will go toward travel expenses, lodging, meals, and medical costs associated with her treatment.
How You Can Help
- Contribution: Any amount—big or small—will help ease the financial burden so the family can focus on what truly matters: Kylie’s healing and recovery.
- Sharing: If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing this fundraiser.
- Prayer: Keeping Kylie and her family in your prayers is also a way to show support.
- Gratitude: Your kindness, encouragement, and support mean more than words can express.
