Event Overview
Join us for the Run and Gun/ Gears and Guns Biathlon Weekend at Flat Rock Ranch on September 13, 2026. The event will take place at 346 Flat Rock Creek Road, Comfort, TX.
COVID-19 Protocols
- Guidelines: COVID protocols follow current CDC guidelines for race weekend.
Registration Details
- Discount: Register for both The Run and Gun and the Gears and Guns and receive a $10 discount.
- License Requirement: You must have either an annual US Biathlon license or purchase a $20 one day license with your registration on BikeReg or with cash or check onsite.
- Entry Fee: $45 for each event, or $80 for both events.
- Late Fee: $10 onsite late fee charged.
Awards
- Top Three: Awards given for top three in each category for the Run/ Shoot- Summer Biathlon and the Mountain Bike/ Shoot- MTB Biathlon.
- Overall Awards: Given for top three in each category - Summer Biathlon and MTB Biathlon combined times.
Safety Requirements
- License: One Day US Biathlon license required - $20 one day license available.
- Safety Course: Please ensure that you have taken the US Biathlon Basic Rifle Safety Course.
- Safety Assessment: A US Biathlon certified Range Safety Officer will assess during the practice session on Saturday and Sunday morning before the event.
- Mandatory Equipment: Each shooter must have eye and ear protection before they touch their rifle.
Event Schedule
Saturday - September 12, 2026
- 4 pm - 7 pm: Shooting range open for practice with experienced shooters onsite for instruction.
- 4 pm - 7 pm: Registration open at BikeReg.
Sunday - September 13, 2026
- 7 am - 8 am: Registration, equipment check, and athlete check-in for both events.
- 8:15 am: Mandatory Racers meeting - Gears & Guns MTB Biathlon.
- 8:30 am: Start of Gears and Guns MTB Biathlon.
- 10:30 am: Start of Run and Gun Summer Biathlon.
Categories
- Men Open: 46+ and 45 & under.
- Women Open:
- Junior: 18 & under category added if there are 4 or more athletes.
- Other Categories: May be added at the discretion of the race promoter.
Shooting Criteria
- Gun Type: 22 Long Rifle (Bolt, Pump, or Lever Action) using Open Sights.
- Targets: 6” targets at 40 meters.
- Safety Officers: Designated Range Safety Officers (RSO) will oversee firing range safety throughout the race.
- Sharing Guns: Accommodation for shared guns will be arranged for start times.
Formats
Summer Biathlon Format (running and shooting):
- Time Trial: 30-second intervals with various running loops.
- Course: Includes shooting from prone and offhand positions.
Mountain Bike Biathlon Format (mountain biking and shooting):
- Time Trial: 30-second intervals with three mountain bike loops.
- Course: Includes shooting from prone and offhand positions.
Punishment for Misses
- Penalty Laps: Misses result in penalty laps: approximately 20 seconds for run and 40 seconds for MTB.
