About this race
Welcome to the Maine Woods Rambler!
The Bicycle Coalition of Maine (BCM) and Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC) host the Maine Woods Rambler at AMC’s Medawisla Lodge in the heart of Maine’s 100-Mile Wilderness during the weekend of September 25-27, 2026!
- Event Focus: The weekend will center around the Saturday (9/26) ride, with multiple route length options.
- Adventure Awaits: Riders will experience a nationally renowned system of logging and sporting camp access roads.
- Full Weekend Activities: Enjoy bikerafting opportunities, evening fireside chats, dark sky stargazing, and outstanding lodge meals.
- Food & Water Included: Registration fees cover food and water at multiple aid stations, post-ride meals, etc.
Route Options
- Small – 22 miles: Well maintained gravel roads leading to views of clean lakes and local mountains. (Elevation gain — 1,600ft)
- Medium – 33 miles: This route circles around Roach Ponds with well-maintained gravel roads and small rugged sections. (Elevation gain — 2,100ft)
- Large – 47 miles: Combines gravel roads with some rugged areas. Spectacular vistas included! (Elevation gain — 3,700ft)
- XL – 72 miles: A challenging route for experienced riders, featuring difficult terrain and self-support challenges. (Elevation gain — 6,500 ft)
All routes are subject to change due to changing road conditions.
Weekend Schedule
Friday, Sept 25th:
- 5 PM-8 PM – Event pre-registration, Medawisla Front Lobby
- 12 PM-5 PM – Bikerafting with Packraft Maine
- 6 PM – Dinner (included with lodging or purchased separately)
Saturday, Sept 26th:
- 6 AM – 9 AM – Event pre-registration, Medawisla Front Lobby
- 6 AM – 9 AM – Breakfast (included with lodging or purchased separately)
- Various Ride Start Times from 7 AM to 10 AM
- 3 PM – 7 PM – Post-ride self-serve buffet meal for riders
Sunday, Sept 27th:
- 8 AM – Breakfast (included with lodging or purchased separately)
- Self-guided activities available all day
- 12 PM-5 PM – Bikerafting with Packraft Maine
Location

- Cell Service: Limited in the Maine Woods: download directions before your trip.
- GPS Issues: GPS may be unreliable: track mileage on your odometer.
- Access Conditions: Travel on gravel logging roads required: logging vehicles have the right of way.
- No Fuel Available: Once you leave paved roads, no fuel locations remain.
Connectivity: Very limited cell reception: no WiFi available at the lodge.
Accommodations & Additional Meals
Ramblers and their friends & families are invited to spend the weekend with us! Camping and lodge accommodations are available from Friday to Sunday and include meals.

Accommodations are NOT included in ride registration. Please book directly with AMC, calling 603-466-2727, Monday – Saturday from 10:00AM – 5:00PM.
Rules and General Information
- Helmet Policy: Helmets MUST be worn and fastened at all times.
- Road Safety: Riders must obey all traffic laws and ride predictably.
- Traffic Awareness: Be prepared for hunters, fishermen, logging trucks, and other vehicles.
- Gear Recommendations: A minimum tire width of 42mm is recommended: wider for the XL route.
Cancellation Policy
The event will take place rain or shine. Full refund of registration donations less a $25 non-refundable fee if cancellations are made by September 4. No refunds for cancellations after that date.
