Schweitzer Hill Climb - in memory of Joe Claxston

Event Overview

The Schweitzer Hill Climb is a cycling event that includes two routes starting at the bottom of Schweitzer Mountain Road and ending at Schweitzer Village.

Route Details

• Road Route: Follows Schweitzer Mountain Road to the village, is 8.65 miles in length, and climbs 2,551 feet.
• Dirt Route: Diverges from the road at the Lower Basin trailhead, includes Shedwater, Cedar Dreams, Yew Can Do It, and Ursa Major trails, and is 7.69 miles in length with a climb of 2,620 feet.

Bicycle Guidelines

• Permitted Bikes: Participants are allowed to ride human-powered bicycles (or unicycles!) of any type.
• eBikes: Not allowed.
• Recommended Bikes: Traditional road bike for the road route: mountain bike or gravel bike for the dirt route.
• Caution: Traditional road bike is not recommended for the dirt route.

Participant Requirements

• Helmet: Participants must wear a bicycle helmet.
• Legal Compliance: Must abide by State of Idaho laws regarding bicycles on public roads.
• Self-Sufficiency: No aid or feed zones on the route: participants must be self-sufficient in nutrition and mechanical support.
• Safety Rules: Respect event directional and safety signage: do not cross road center lines.

Awards and Nutrition

• Post-Ride Nutrition: Available at the finish line.
• Award Ceremony: Will take place near the Schweitzer Village Clock Tower or in the Lakeview Lodge, depending on weather.
• Food & Beverages: Available at various establishments in Schweitzer Village.
