Race Description
- Burro Requirement: Please secure a burro prior to registering! Burro rental is a separate fee, not included with race registration.
- Organizers: The Superior Hee-Haw Hustle pack burro race is proudly presented by Forever Home Donkey Rescue & Sanctuary, Town of Superior, and Superior Arizona Chamber of Commerce.
- Event Details: Held in Superior, Arizona, the Hee-Haw Hustle celebrates a town rich in mining history and western heritage.
- Racing Teams: A racing team consists of one human and one burro. Participants can choose from 3, 6, or 17 mile courses.
Race Rules
General Rules
- Burro Requirement: RACERS MUST SECURE A BURRO PRIOR TO REGISTERING! Rental options may be available.
- Team Composition: No solo runners allowed: this is a team sport involving 1 human runner & 1 burro.
- Defined Participants: Only donkeys/burros are allowed: no other equines permitted.
- Health Check: Donkeys must be sound, healthy, and fit to race.
Race Teams
- Team Integrity: The runner and burro must remain a team throughout the race, crossing the finish line together.
- No Assistance: No assistants or swapping burros during the race.
- Finish Line: The burro’s nose must cross the finish line to determine the winning team.
Pack Saddle & Gear
- 3 Mile Fun Run: Pack saddle optional.
- 17 Mile Course: The burro must carry a pack saddle with specific items for prize qualification.
- Hoof Boots: Recommended for the 17-mile course.
Halter, Lead Rope & Jack Chains
- Required Equipment: Donkeys must have a proper halter and lead rope.
- Lead Rope Length: The lead rope can be no longer than 15 ft.
- Prohibited Tools: No needles, electric prods, clubs, or whips.
Burro Camp
- Cost: $15 per night, per space, dry camping.
- Location: Superior Municipal Airport - coordinates provided in the link.
- Camp Hours: November 12, 2:00 p.m. - November 15, noon.
- Facilities: Potable water, portable toilets, and a shuttle service will be provided.
Schedule
- Thursday, November 12: 2:00 p.m. Burro Camp Opens.
- Friday, November 13: Racer arrivals and Burro Camp check-ins. Race meeting at 5 p.m. (tentative).
- Saturday, November 14: Race Day. Starting at 7:00 a.m., with various events leading up to the race start at 9:00 a.m.
- Sunday, November 15: Noon Burro Camp Closes.
