About this race
Race Overview
Get ready for a unique South Texas cycling experience at the inaugural Old Coughran Town Gravel! Kickstand Racing is back as Kickstand Racing // STG2, and we are ready to debut a brand-new event on the Texas calendar. This race crosses the scenic backroads of Atascosa and Wilson counties. While map makers spelled the town Coughran, locals have proudly pronounced it "Korn" for generations. We are leaning into that insider heritage to bring you an authentic gravel experience.
Event Details
This first-year event takes you deep into the heart of the historic region and across the legendary Eagle Ford Shale play. Don’t let the flat profile fool you. While you won’t find a lot of elevation on these routes, the relentless South Texas coastal winds can definitely make up for it—turning every open straightaway into a true test of grit. Whether you are hunting for cash prizes on the rugged unpaved backroads or simply riding for weekend bragging rights, come make history with us and tackle the finest caliche and wind that South Texas has to offer!
Traffic Control & Rider Responsibility
Your safety is our top priority, but gravel racing requires self-awareness on open public roads. Please note our official traffic protocols:
- The First Right Corner: A law enforcement officer will be stationed at the very first right turn after the start line to control traffic and safely launch each racing field onto the course.
- On the Course: Aside from the first right turn, all roads are open to public vehicular traffic. There are no corner marshals on the remote gravel sectors. Every participant is strictly responsible for navigating all intersections safely and obeying the bicycle traffic laws of the State of Texas (stopping at stop signs, riding predictably, and staying to the right).
- The Finish Line: Because the finish line is located at a three-corner intersection, a law enforcement officer will be stationed there to direct the occasional local traffic, ensuring every rider can safely sprint across the finish line.
At the Finish Line
- Cash Prizes and awards: for the top 3 overall Men and Women competing in The Iron Oak 68 fields. 45+ AG Recognition. Purse pending class size.
- Cash Prizes and awards: for the top 3 overall Men and Women in The Caliche Corridor 51. Purse pending class size.
- Finish Line Refreshments and snack: post-ride cold drinks and snack foods waiting for all participants as soon as you cross the line.
- Professional Chip Timing: Full timing services across all three routes so you can track your effort and compare times with friends after the ride.
