- Views: Offering unmatched views of 70 miles of shoreline and 35 miles out to sea on clear days.
- Marine Reserve: Views of the Cape Perpetua Marine Reserve and Scenic Area's rugged and rocky shore demonstrate the power of the ocean.
- Ecology: Experience the coastal temperate rainforest rich with diverse ecology and archeological significance.
Village of Yachats
Nestled between lush temperate rainforest and rhythmic Pacific surf, the village of Yachats derives its name from the native term Ya’Xaik (YAH-hike), commonly used to refer to the Yachats area and the band of native Alsea people who lived here.
Native History
The Alsea called the Cape Perpetua area Halaqaik, the “uncovered place, open place or exposed place” because they maintained the area as open meadows through generations of cultural burning of encroaching forest. The more open meadows facilitated their hunting of elk, deer and other game.
Land Acknowledgement
We honor and recognize that we gather for this event on the traditional lands of the native Alsea peoples, who have been part of this landscape for at least 6,000 years, with Yachats and Cape Perpetua bearing much evidence of this rich history.
