About this race
Unlimited Distances • 28k Relay
New Obscura-style race format for 2027 for distances of 9km to over 160km!
Get into fall running mode and enjoy the Castle Mountain Resort area. Castle is a secluded gem of a place that everyone should make an effort to visit.
Castle Alpine Trail Ultra (let's call it CAT, OK?) combines wide-open vistas, rugged single track, off-trail running, and so much delicious climbing. While it isn't an extraordinarily long race distance-wise, CAT is like a schoolyard bully - it's going to rough you up and doesn't relent the whole day.
This is a classic trail run covering two mountain summits and one of the most serene alpine valleys in the region. Each stage starts and ends at Castle Mountain Resort, so you don't even really need a support crew - just park your kit in the staging area and do some quick transitions. Leg 1 runs clockwise, Leg 2 counterclockwise, and Leg 3 clockwise.
This year, we are introducing the Obscura series and a new format to the race. If you register for the Ultra – Unlimited Distances, you can run as many of the stages as you want within the 24-hour cutoff. You can also register for the Half Marathon alone, which is the first stage of the race. We still have the relay team of 6 option, which follows the original 6-stage format. Check out the Obscura series info here.
Castle Mountain Resort offers a variety of accommodations including private rooms, a hostel, and BnBs so make a weekend out of it and enjoy your stay. Being that it is September, you can expect a chance of snow and definitely a bone-chilling wind at the top of the mountain, or it can be hot... so bring all the gear!
While you're here, check out the flora and fauna. Castle is known for its wildlife viewing and exploring in the spring through fall, before the ski season starts.
Climb to the heights of the Castle!
