Scrub Jay Races

Event Overview

Join us for the 26th annual 5K and Scramble 10K.

• Start times: The 5K and 10K utilize different starts and courses.
• Course type: The 5K is more road-runner friendly with some trails.
• Challenge level: The Scramble 10K is a more challenging trail course.
• Post-race party: Enjoy a post-race gathering by the Nature Center and pavilions.

Course Details

• 5K Course: Designed for road-runners, featuring hard packed surfaces and some trails.
• Trail features: Includes tree roots and sections of "sugar sand."
• Starting point: Begins near the Nature Center, following the main entrance road.
• Route: Travels on mostly prepared-surface park trails before transitioning to earthen trails.

Scramble 10K Description

• Trail running: Designed by trail runners for trail runners.
• Course challenges: Incorporates ups and downs with pedestrian underpasses and overpasses.
• 2025 modifications: A slight detour will be implemented to avoid damaged areas of the Orange Trail.

Registration Information

• Included items: Custom finisher's medal for all finishers, post-race snacks, and a tech race shirt (while supplies last).
• Shirt ordering: Race shirts will be ordered approximately three weeks prior to the event.
• Availability: Shirts available only while supplies last, and sizes will be in inventory at that time.
• Pickup policy: Shirts not picked up by the close of packet pick up will be forfeited.

Timing and Results

• Start type: Both races have a gun start with a chip-timed finish.
• Results notification: Results available on site and can be texted or emailed to participants.
• No timing mats: Timing mats will not be at the start of the races.
• Opt-in: Participants can opt in for results notifications during registration.

Awards

• Overall awards: Overall, Masters (40+), Grandmasters (50+), Senior Grandmasters (60+), Veteran Grandmasters (70+), and Youth Overall (14 & under).
• 5K Age Group Awards: 3-deep in 9 & under, 10-12, 13-14, and 5-year increments from 15-19 to 90 & over.
• Scramble 10K Age Group Awards: 3-deep for 14 & under and 5-year increments from 15-19 to 80 & over.
• Crews: Encouragement and cheers from supporters are highly valued!

• Youth pricing: Young runners receive special registration pricing from the Friends of Oscar Scherer Park.
• Friendly memberships: Members can email for a discount coupon code.
• Club benefits: Discounts are applied automatically for members of local running and triathlon clubs.
• Automatic discounts: Club membership discounts will reflect during registration.
