The Vinings Down Hill 5K Run for the Kids

Event Overview

On August 8, 2026, runners, walkers, and spectators will gather for the 30th Anniversary of the Vinings Down Hill 5K Run for the Kids — three decades of community, fun, and fundraising for local children’s charities. Founded in 1996 by Charles Heinz, a passionate Rotarian and visionary runner, the race has grown from humble beginnings into one of Atlanta’s most beloved summer events.

Race Details

• Date: August 8, 2026
• Location: 2849 Paces Ferry Rd SE, Atlanta, GA
• Course: Begins at the top of Mt. Wilkinson and finishes at The Lovett School.
• Elevation Drop: Features a dramatic 280-foot net elevation drop.

Course Challenges

• Hills: There are three short hills along the route.
• Half-Mile Mark: The first hill is at the half-mile mark.
• Second Mile: Another hill occurs during the second mile.
• Final Stretch: A last hill is present in the final half-mile before downhill stretches.

• Kids 1K: Features a Kids 1K Fun Run.
• Doggie Dash: Includes a crowd-favorite Doggie Dash & Costume Contest.
