Shiprock Marathon

🎉 Welcome to the 43nd Annual Shiprock Marathon, Half Marathon & 5K

Shiprock Youth Center – Friday, May 1 & Saturday, May 2, 2026

The 2026 Shiprock Marathon will provide a unique and memorable running experience the first weekend of May in Shiprock, New Mexico!

🏃 5K Trail Race Details

• Event Time: 5:00 p.m. on Friday, May 1.
• Awards: Top individual (overall and age-group top three) and team winners.
• Swag: All runners will receive a performance t-shirt, race poster, swag, and post-race snacks.
• New Events: Elder’s Run at 3 p.m., fun-run style for medals.

🏆 Marathon Information

The Marathon will begin at 7:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 2 with the start/finish area in Shiprock. Runners who expect to compete for overall or age-group awards should start in the front of the mass start at 7:00. The Shiprock Marathon is a USATF Certified Course, making it a Boston Qualifier as well as a qualifier for the Abbott Marathon Majors Masters World Championships. Age groups are awarded to the top 3 in 5 year increments.

⏱️ Half Marathon Start

The Half Marathon will start at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday May 2nd. Age groups are awarded to the top 3 in 5 year increments.

👥 Team Race for 5K

• Fun Event: Run with friends in the team race, no extra cost.
• Team Requirements: Needs a team of 5 to qualify for awards.
• Easy Registration: Just answer YES to join or create a team during registration.
• Team Name: Only the first person in the group needs to create the team name.

🏞️ Course Features

The out-and-back road course includes views of Shiprock Pinnacle and a gentle long downhill slope on the return. There are two points on course where there are time cutoffs to be aware of, they are listed below. There will be great course support and live music along the way. Expect to see the likes of Dark Sky, Red Hawk, Pinon Pickers, Mountain Spring, and Skoolboykook, sharing a variety of traditional, country, Navajo blues, classic rock, and rez metal sounds.

🎫 Packet Pick-Up

Packet pick-up will take place at the large Shiprock Youth Center parking lot on Friday from 2:00-7:00 p.m. and again from 6:00-6:45 a.m. on Saturday morning.

🚗 Race Day Parking

• Parking from Farmington: Drive west on Hwy 64 for approximately 30 miles to Shiprock.
• Parks in Shiprock: Follow signs to event parking on the right after crossing the San Juan River.
• Coming from the south: Event parking is on the left upon entering Shiprock.
• Lodging: Farmington offers a vast array of lodging options.

📅 Race Day Logistics

• Results & Timing: Rocky Mountain Timing will provide results via QR codes.
• The Course: Aid stations every mile with medical support throughout.
• Course Cutoffs: Runners must be off N13 and onto US 491 by noon (12pm) and finished by 2pm.

🥇 The Finish Line

• Food Area: Finishers receive a hearty snack box and beverages: visit food trucks for treats.
• Post-Race Party: Live music, food, and medals for all finishers.
• Awards: Overall and age-group awards will be presented as soon as possible.

There are a wide range of lodging options available in Farmington, New Mexico, which is a 30-mile drive from Shiprock.

This year’s race is USATF-certified and is a Boston qualifier!
