BIRR Hilo to Volcano 50K Run/Walk/Relay

🏃‍♂️ Race Overview

The annual Hilo to Volcano 50K Run/Walk/Relay is on Saturday January 10, 2026.

🏔️ About the Race

• Distance: A challenging 31 mile run gaining approximately 4000 feet in elevation.
• Type: It's challenging, an excellent accomplishment…and super fun as a relay.
• Location: The start will be at the underground parking lot of the Hilo Hawaiian Hotel on Banyan Drive, Hilo (same as last year).
• Course: This course utilizes shoulders on Hwy 11 and finishes at the Cooper Center in Volcano.

⏰ Start Times

• Solo Runners: Start is at 6:00 am.
• Relay Team Runners: Start is at 6:15 am.
• Relay Change: Relay teams change runners every 2 miles at the even mile markers.
• Essentials: There are no aid stations along the course, so runners are encouraged to bring their own water and nourishment.

🥇 Prizes

• Solo Runners: Top 3 Female and Male runners overall, Top 2 Female and Male runners in each 10 year age group.
• Relay Teams:
  • Top 2 Female, Male and Mixed relay teams up to 40 years.
  • Top 2 Female, Male and Mixed “Masters” relay teams over 40 years (all members must be over 40 years old).
• Family and Student Relay Teams:
  • Top 2 Family relay teams (must be from same family).
  • Top 2 Student relay teams (must all be high school students or younger).

🕑 End Time

Race ends at 2pm.

📦 Packet Pickup

• When: Packet Pickup will be at the Hilo Hawaiian day before race, January 9rd, 2026 between 3-5:30pm.
• Race Morning: Pickup between 5:30-5:50am.
• Note: Sorry no day of race registration.
