BIRR Hilo to Volcano 50K Run/Walk/Relay

Event Overview

The annual Hilo to Volcano 50K Run/Walk/Relay is on Saturday January 9, 2027.

Race Details

• Type: Hilo to Volcano 50K ultra and team relay is a challenging 31 mile run gaining approximately 4000 feet in elevation.
• Start Location: The start will be at the underground parking lot of the Hilo Hawaiian Hotel on Banyan Drive, Hilo (same as last year).
• Start Time: Solo Runners AND Relay Team Runners: Start is at 6:00 am.
• Course: This course utilizes shoulders on Hwy 11 and finishes at the Cooper Center in Volcano.

Relay Information

• Runner Exchange: Relay teams change runners every 2 miles at the even mile markers.
• Support Stations: There are no aid stations along the course, so runners are encouraged to bring their own water and nourishment.
• Post-Race: A light lunch, snacks, drinks and medals at the end.

Prizes

Solo Runners:

• Top Finishers: Top 3 Female and Male runners overall.
• Age Group Awards: Top 2 Female and Male runners in each 10 year age group.

Relay Teams:

• Team Composition: Teams with no more than 3 runners.
• Age Categories: Top 2 Female, Male and Mixed relay teams up to 40 years.
• Masters Division: Top 2 "Masters" relay teams over 40 years (all members must be over 40 years old).

Family and Student Relay Teams:

• Family Teams: Top 2 Family relay teams (must be from the same family).
• Student Teams: Top 2 Student relay teams (must all be high school students or younger).

Race End Time

Race ends at 2pm.

Packet Pickup

Packet Pickup will be at the Hilo Hawaiian the day before the race, January 8th, 2027 between 3-5:30pm and race morning between 5:30-5:50am. Sorry, no day of race registration.
