🏅 Event Overview
- Inaugural Event: Join us for the inaugural Jerome Kirkland Sr. Cancer Awareness 5K Walk/Run, aka “Captain’s 5K.”
- Date: Scheduled on November 8th, 2025.
- Location: Held at McCurry Park in Fayette County.
- Purpose: Celebrate our commitment to community service, health, and wellness awareness.
📝 5K Run/Walk Registration
- Early Bird Fee: $25 'Early Bird' Pre-Registration Fee (Through Sept. 15, 11:59pm)
- Pre-Race Fee: $35 Pre-Race Registration Fee (Sept. 16 through Nov. 5, 11:59pm)
- Day of Race Fee: $45 Day of Race Registration Fee
- Note: Pre-Race Registration ends at 11:59 PM, on Nov. 5: register by Oct. 18 to guarantee T-shirt size.
💻 'Virtual 5K' Registration
- Virtual Fee: $35 Pre-Race Registration Fee.
- T-Shirt: Virtual participants DO receive a t-shirt, so include an email for mailing address.
🛤️ 5K Race Route
This USATF-Certified 5K Course begins and ends in McCurry Park. It is scenic, very fast, and a PEACHTREE ROAD RACE QUALIFIER! The course travels along newly paved perimeter roads before entering the park and winding through paved walking/running paths, finishing on a slightly downhill path.
🚦 Race Start-Finish & Race Day Parking
Both the Start and Finish Line(s) are located in the parking lot of McCurry Park located at 180 McDonough Rd., Fayetteville, GA 30214. There is plenty of parking available in the main lot, less than 100m from BOTH the start and finish.

📰 Want to Know More About 'Captain Kirk,' Jerome Kirkland Sr.?
Jerome J Kirkland Sr, affectionately nicknamed "Capt Kirk" by his brothers of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc., was born in Camden NJ (May 7, 1944) and a long-time resident of Newnan GA. He was a Vietnam War combat veteran (SSgt, USA): City Councilman and Board of Education member (Plainfield NJ): Educator / Coach (Dekalb County Schools GA): Parish Council Chairman (Newnan Chapel UMC, Newnan GA) and Elder and Leader of Thrive Ministry (GO Church, Sharpsburg GA).
Jerome was the Founding Father and chartered member of the Theta Lambda Lambda (TLL) Chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. that serves Coweta /Fayette counties. Jerome was the catalyst in TLL Chapter providing over $250,000 in scholarships for college-bound students: sponsoring blood drives and other community health initiatives: supporting Cancer Relay for Life: establishing several mentoring programs and countless other community service initiatives.
TLL Chapter's tremendous impact on the Coweta/Fayette County community is due to Jerome's outstanding dedication and leadership. Jerome fought the good fight and succumbed to cancer (November 20, 2023). He left an endearing and enduring legacy. The men of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc, TLL Chapter proudly named the 5K run after Jerome J Kirkland Sr to honor his legacy in establishing scholarships for college-bound seniors in Coweta/Fayette counties and for promoting men's health/cancer awareness and community service.
