🏃‍♂️ Race Overview

Set PRs and qualify for the Boston Marathon on this fast, downhill course! Total net downhill loss for the marathon is 929 feet making it the PERFECT course!

🌲 Course Details

The Bizz Johnson Trail begins at Mason Station and travels through scenic Lassen National Forest.

• Start Point: Mason Station
• Elevation Gain: Approximately 280 feet climb through the forest to Westwood Junction
• Descent: 1300-foot descent over the final 20 miles
• Historical Route: Follows the old Fernley and Lassen Branch Line of the Southern Pacific Railroad, built in 1914

🌊 Susan River Canyon

Roughly two-thirds of the way through the race, the trail enters the Susan River Canyon.

• Scenic Views: Pass orange cliffs and cross the river ten times
• Bridges: Picturesque wooden railroad bridges
• Railroad Tunnels: About four miles from the finish, you’ll pass through two former railroad tunnels
• Tunnel Lengths: 800 feet and 450 feet in length

🏅 Half Marathon Races

There are two different half marathon races.

• Half Marathon (& 10 Km): Starts in Susanville, out and back using only the last quarter of the full marathon route
• Express Half Marathon: Runs the second half of the full marathon: participants will be bused to a remote start

🚍 Express Half Marathon Relay

The Express Half Marathon Relay has specific logistics for Leg 1 and 2 runners.

• Bus Transport: Leg 1 and 2 runners will be bused to Goumaz Campground
• Leg 1 Start: Leg 1 runners will start with the Express Half Marathon
• Leg 2 Location: Runners will be taken to Devil's Corral at Mile 7
• Finish Transport: Bus will transport Leg 1 runners to the Susanville Historic Train Depot for shuttle to finish line at Hobo Camp
