Race Overview

The Gavin and Bryson Blount Memorial 5K will take place on September 13, 2025, at Glasgow Regional Park, Newark, DE. Participants are invited to join in a meaningful event that honors the memory of Gavin and Bryson Blount.

Background Story

• Diagnosis: In October 2021, 5 year old Gavin Blount was diagnosed with brain cancer.
• Siblings' Struggles: Just 3 months later, in January 2022, his 3 year old brother Bryson was diagnosed with ALL Leukemia.
• CMMRD Condition: Both boys were diagnosed with CMMRD, or Constitutional Mismatch Repair Deficiency, which made them predisposed to aggressive cancers.
• Treatment Journey: Treatment began immediately for both boys, but the cancers grew too rapidly.

Legacy of Love

• Tragic Loss: Gavin passed away on February 18, 2023, at the age of 6, and Bryson followed on December 19, 2023, at the age of 5.
• Community Support: The Ahmad Butler Foundation (ABF) assisted the Blounts with financial expenses, including funeral costs.
• Ongoing Aid: ABF continues to provide support through a community of understanding individuals related to the family's experience.
• Charitable Mission: The ABF aims to aid children with cancer and improve their quality of life.

• Programs Offered: ABF provides programs focusing on education, social, emotional, and financial support for families post-diagnosis.
• Community Impact: To date, ABF has served over 10,000 people affected by childhood cancer.
• Advocacy Work: ABF leads the Million Family March to demand increased funding for childhood cancer research.
• Proceeds from the Race: All proceeds will go to the Ahmad Butler Foundation to enhance support for families like the Blounts.
