Race Day Details
- Date: September 19, 2026
- Start Time: 9:00 am sharp
- Location: Missouri Headwaters State Park, one mile south of Trident, about 6 miles northeast of Three Forks, MT
- Parking: Limited availability, please carpool
The Course
- Length: Approximately 7 miles
- Terrain: First mile and a half on paved/gravel road, remaining 5.5 miles on rugged trails
- Historical Note: Trails similar to those used by Lewis and Clark
- Crossings: Two railroad crossings with specific safety measures
Water Crossings
- First Crossing: Under the railroad bridge, mud can be knee deep
- Second Crossing: Gallatin River, water may reach waist deep
- Safety Measures: Safety rope will be secured across the river
- Extra Gear: Bring a change of clothes for post-race events
Prizes and Awards
- Chase the Colter: First 50 runners to beat John Colter to the Beaver Dam will win a special prize
- Finish Awards: Given to overall top male and female, age group winners, youngest and oldest runner, and other recognitions
- Post-race Party: Join us for a barbeque with beer and live music
- Registration Limits: Limited to 300 participants
Important Information
- Race Bib Policy: Bibs cannot be transferred: only registered participants will receive them
- Registration Opens: April 1, 2026
- No Refunds: Entry fees are non-refundable if you cannot run
- Cancellation Policy: 50% refund if canceled for extraordinary reasons
Additional Guidelines
- No Walkers: Due to the race nature and time constraints
- No Dogs: Dogs are not allowed on the race course
- Water Station: One station approximately 4 miles into the run
- Restroom Facilities: Porta Potties available at the start area only
