SARR Prickly Pear

Race Overview

• Event Date: 3/06/27
• Organizer: Join the San Antonio RoadRunners for the 24th running of the Prickly Pear.
• Distances Available: 50K, 15K, and 5K on natural trails.
• Trail Condition: Courses contain dirt, rocks, tree roots, and minimal pavement. Trail shoes are recommended.

Start Times & Course Cutoff

• 50K Start: 6am - three 10.34 mile loops.
• 15K Start: 8am - one 9.36 mile loop.
• 5K Start: 8:30am - 3.38 miles.
• Cutoff Time: 4pm (10 hours). 50K participants must start their final loop by 12:45pm.

Race Policy on Pets

• Pets on Course: We love our 4-legged friends: however, dogs and strollers are not allowed on the course.
• Reason: This policy is in place for safety reasons.

Race Details

• Chip-Timed: Participants must wear a bib on the front of their shirt.
• Awards: Top 3 Overall and Masters (40+) in all distances.
• Finishers Medal: Awarded to all who finish, with additional items for 50K runners.
• Race Results: Available on race day: photos posted within 4-5 days.

Location Information

• Staging Area: Starts and finishes at McAllister Park’s Optimist Pavilion #3.
• Parking: Available near the pavilion.
• Facilities: Restrooms and port-a-potties with hand sanitizing stations available.

Hydration Stations

• Water Stations: Three on the 50K/15K course, one on the 5K course.
• Drink Options: Exclusively stocked with Crazy Water and Gatorade.
• Hydration Requirements: This is a cupless race: participants must carry their own hydration device.
• Environmental Note: Dispose of trash at Aid Stations or carry it with you to protect the trails.

Course Details

• Trail Type: Mostly flat and fast single-track trails.
• Trail Names: Includes Blue Loop, Mud Creek Loop, and Mosquito Lake trails.
• Terrain: Features rocks, tree roots, dry creek beds, and prickly pear cactus.

Packet Pickup

• Date & Time: Friday, March 5th 4-7pm at REI Co-op.
• Location: 11745 I-10, Suite 110, San Antonio, TX 78230.
• Race Day Pickup: Available starting at 5:15am near Optimist Pavilion #3.

Virtual Race Option

• Participation: Complete your 50K/15K/5K anywhere of your choice.
• Awards Eligibility: Virtual participants are not eligible for in-person awards.
• Packet Includes: Tshirt, finishers medal, and 50K oval sticker.
• Shipping Info: Packets are not automatically shipped: shipping must be added at registration.

Registration Notice

• Runner Cap: This race has a cap of 600 runners.
• Early Registration: SARR members save 25% with online registration through 1/31/27.
• Limited Spots: The race will sell out!
