🏃♀️ Race Overview
Interested in running the oldest half marathon in Oregon? Come join us for the Eastern Oregon Half Marathon, and race alongside the beautifully scenic John Day River! You can choose to tackle the full 13.1 miles, or enjoy a shorter race by choosing the 5 or 10k. Either way, you will be cheered across the finish line by an enthusiastic crowd that gathers to support racers and take in the annual Spray Rodeo and parade. The scenery, small-town hospitality, and friendly competition are reward enough – but this year’s top men’s and women’s overall half-marathon winners will also receive top-notch belt buckles! In addition to enjoying an old-school race in the gorgeous John Day River Valley, you will also be supporting a great cause. All profits go to the Spray Rodeo Association, 70% goes to the Spray Community Fund 30% goes to the Spray Rodeo operating fund.
🌄 The Course
- Location: The Half Marathon begins 1/4 mile northwest of Service Creek on HWY 19.
- Start Times: Half Marathon at 8 AM, 10k at 8:30 AM, 5k at 9:00 AM. Half Marathon Walkers start at 7 AM.
- Elevation: The surface is paved, with a twelve foot rise in elevation between start and finish.
- Direction: Participants will run with traffic on the right side of the road.
🚻 Notes
- Restrooms: There will be portable restrooms at Service Creek, and at the 10k start.
- Liquids: Liquids will be available at four places along the course and finish line.
🏅 Awards
- Categories: Awards will be presented to male and female winners in age categories: 13 and under, 14-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, and 80 and up.
- Overall Winners: The overall male and female winners in the half marathon will each receive a belt buckle.
- Plaques: Plaques for overall in the 5k and 10k overall, and plaques for all age division winners.
- Ceremony Time: Awards ceremony will begin promptly at 10:45 a.m.
🚌 Transportation
- Bus Service: Bus transportation to starting line departs Spray School at 7:00 a.m. sharp.
- Drop Off: Runners will be dropped at the start of their event, with 5k and 10k runners returned to their starting line.
- Walkers: Walkers need to arrange a ride to the starting line for the 7am walker start.
- Parking: If possible, do not leave cars at Service Creek. No return transportation will be provided.
🍽️ Food, Beverage, and Other Accommodations
- Showers: Showers will be available in the school. Hot water is limited.
- Fundraiser Breakfast: A fundraiser breakfast is available at the school, supporting Spray HS athletics.
ℹ️ Other Information
- Course Restrictions: The race will be run entirely on the south/river side of the highway.
- Traffic Notice: Traffic will be heavy due to Memorial Weekend and the Spray Rodeo. Please take all precautions.
- Safety: Watch for vehicle traffic at all times: race course monitors are authorized to disqualify anyone acting unsafely.
