Summer Slay 5K & 1 Mile Fun Walk - Run for Rilyn

🏃‍♂️ Race Overview

• Event Type: A timed 5K race with shirts provided if you sign up by the shirt deadline date.
• Location: The race will start and end at Helicon Brewing in Oakdale (102 Union Ave, Oakdale, PA 15071).
• Course Details: The course will be 1.55 miles on the Panhandle trail headed towards McDonald and then back.
• Fun Walk: A 1 mile family fun walk is also available but will not be a timed event. A t-shirt add on option is available with the 1 mile fun walk.

📅 Race Day Information

• Packet Pickup: This event will have day of packet pickup.
• Communication: More information will be sent to all registered runners a day or two before the race.
• Shirt Quality: Our shirts are always a runner favorite and are Next Level Tri-Blend unisex t-shirts that feel and look great.
• Shirt Design: These shirts will say Summer Slay 5K on them.

❤️ Support for Rilyn

• Cause: All donations will go to support 6 year old Rilyn in her brave fight against High-Risk Neuroblastoma which she has been battling since she was just 18 months old.
• Family Experience: Cliff and Jamie Hughes have lived the unimaginable filled with words no parent should ever hear.
• Diagnosis: Their youngest daughter, Rilyn, was diagnosed with High-Risk Neuroblastoma in April 2020 when she was only 18 months old.
• Treatment Journey: Rilyn has endured more than most people will in their lifetime. She has received over 40 cycles of various chemotherapy and immunotherapy treatments, a total of 44 sessions of radiation, and multiple surgeries and biopsies.

🩺 Current Situation

• Treatment Locations: Over the years, their family has traveled to New York City, Philadelphia, and most recently, Houston for treatment and clinical trials.
• Last Options: Unfortunately, all treatment options have been exhausted, and aggressive surgery is the family’s last option before palliative care.
• Surgery Details: On June 9th, Rilyn will undergo an orbital exenteration surgery at Children’s Hospital (Pittsburgh) in hopes to remove the tumor located in her orbital area.
• Impact of Surgery: This surgery includes the loss of her eye and optic nerve, which is still devastating to this sweet 6-year-old girl.
