About the Run and AEF

The AEF 5K Run celebrates Arlington’s students, teachers, and staff who work tirelessly to create enriching and innovative educational experiences. All ages are welcome to participate. The proceeds from the run will be used to support innovative and creative new projects, as well as system-wide initiatives, that enhance the educational experience in Arlington’s Public Schools.

• Community Support: AEF depends entirely on individual donations and business sponsorships.
• Fundraising: The race plays a significant role in our community awareness and fundraising initiatives.

Registration

Registration is open to all ages. Early bird pricing (until Wednesday, 4/1) is $35 per entrant. The race fee will increase to $45 per entrant after that date for all except for the ACE, Gibbs/OMS running group members.

• Discounts: Arlington Community Education ACE and Gibbs/OMS (elementary & middle school programs) participants are eligible for a discount.
• Notification: This information will be sent to students participating in the running groups.
• No Race Day Registration: There will be NO RACE DAY REGISTRATION.

Volunteers

Volunteers are needed to ensure that the AEF 5K is a safe and fun race experience for all participants! Please sign up to assist our Race Leadership Team on race day! If interested in volunteering, please sign up here.

Race Swag

• T-Shirts: T-Shirts will be provided for all participants 14 years old and younger. Please specify the unisex t-shirt size when registering.
• Older Participants: T-shirts will be provided for all older teen/adult participants who register before May 1st.
• Opt Out: Opting out of a t-shirt means your contribution to AEF will make more of an impact! TO OPT OUT OF A SHIRT - please select the "NO SHIRT" option under the sizing menu.

The Course

The 5K run will start and end at Hill’s Hill Field, behind the Ed Burns Arena (422 Summer Street, Arlington, MA), with the course route shown below.

• Starting Point: After starting on the Hill’s Hill field, turn left (East) onto the Minuteman Bikeway.
• Route Direction: Continue East to Water Street.
• Turn Right: Turn right on Water Street and then a quick right (West) onto Massachusetts Ave.
• Final Stretch: Continue East on the Minuteman Bike Path back to Hill’s Hill Field to the race finish.

Bib Pickup

• Friday (May 15): Marathon Sports, 673 Mass Ave. Arlington 2pm-7pm
• Saturday (May 16): AHS outside main entrance 9am-Noon
• No Race Day Pickup: NO Race Day Pickup

Awards & Results

• Awards: Awards will be given at 9:00 a.m. to the top finishers in each category.
• Timing: Chip timing will be coordinated by Second Wind Timing.
• Results: Results will be posted and emailed to all participants and are viewable at www.secondwindresults.com

Parking

Arlington residents, leave your cars at home and warm up as you run/walk to Hill’s Hill field! Please leave plenty of time to park on the neighboring streets. Do not block driveways or impede traffic on Overlook.

Safety

The race will run unless extreme weather prevents safe conditions. There will be no refunds.
