Event Overview

Join us for the 38th running of the Tom Fleming Sunset Classic sponsored by Brookdale Shop Rite, which benefits the Bloomfield Educational Foundation and the Vocational Educational Special Training (V.E.S.T) program.

Race Details

• Championship: We are the USATF-NJ COED Team Championship.
• Activities: There will be hot dogs, beverages, ice cream, and beer at the Town Pub Beer Garden (bring your ID and beer tickets for your complimentary beer).
• Family Fun: Fun for the whole family!! Kids Infield Sprints for 2 to 12 year olds.
• Races: Includes the growing Rick Petersen Mile for all ages and the Tom Fleming 5 Mile.

Awards for 5 Mile Race

• Overall Winners: Top 3 overall open winners Male and Female: 1st Place $150, 2nd Place $125, 3rd Place $100.
• Local Winners: Top overall Male and Female Bloomfielder.
• Masters Awards: Top 3 Masters Male and Female based on PLP %: 1st $100, 2nd $75, 3rd $50.
• Age Groups: Top 3 male and female in each division: 10 to 13, 14 to 19, 20 to 29, and more.

Awards for Mile Race

• Overall Winners: Overall Male and Female - Medals to all finishers.
• Timing: ALL AWARDS ARE BASED ON GUN TIME.

Parking Information

• Parking Lots: Parking lot behind the Town Pub 378 Broad St, Bloomfield.
• Memorial Park: Memorial Park Parking lot 7-11 Division St, Bloomfield.
• Board of Ed: Bloomfield Board of Ed parking lot 155 Broad Street - short warm-up to Race Site at Foley Field.
• Street Parking: Street parking on Baldwin St, Warren St, Osborne St, all off of Broad St.
• Street Closure: Broad St will be closed from Belleville Ave to Watchung Ave starting between 6:30 and 6:45pm.

About Tom Fleming

Thomas J. Fleming was an American distance runner who won the 1973 and 1975 New York City Marathon. He was also a two-time runner-up in the Boston Marathon in 1973 and 1974 and finished six times in the top ten in the BAA marathon. He was one of the founding fathers of the Sunset Classic.

Packet Pickup

• Location: Fleet Feet Montclair, 603 Bloomfield Ave Montclair, NJ 07042.
• Pickup Schedule: Tuesday, June 23 from 12 Noon to 6:00pm and Wednesday June 24 from 10:00am to 5:00pm.
• Race Day Registration: June 25 at Bloomfield's Foley Field, starting at 6:00PM.
• Registration Notice: All Registrations will be online only this year so bring your smart phone to register at Fleet Feet on Tuesday or Wednesday and Race Day! You can pay online with a CC, we also will accept checks made out to the BEF or cash at packet pickup or race day.
