Beckley Half Marathon & 5K

Race Overview

Active Southern West Virginia is excited to welcome runners back to the Beckley Half Marathon on September 26, 2026!

• Location: Starting and finishing at the iconic Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine.
• History: The Exhibition Coal Mine tells the story of West Virginia’s coal heritage.
• Experience: Guided tours through an actual mine and original buildings enhance the race day atmosphere.
• Unique: A truly unique backdrop for race day in a preserved historic coal camp.

Half Marathon Details

Half marathoners will cruise along the scenic rail trail before heading uptown and then returning to the rail trail to finish.

• Course: Designed to be approachable yet competitive.
• Aim: Ideal for seasoned runners and first-timers alike.
• Distance: A total of 13.1 miles with a 3 hour and 30 minutes cut-off time.
• Support: A supportive, high-energy environment for all participants.

5K Information

The 5K features a welcoming out-and-back course that’s perfect for runners and walkers of all levels.

• Atmosphere: Strong community support and great scenery.
• Experience: Ideal for chasing a PR, running with friends, or enjoying the race day vibes.
• Participation: Kids 12 and under can race the 5K for free!
• Finishing: A finish-line experience worth celebrating in southern West Virginia.

Post-Race Perks

All participants will enjoy a hearty post-race meal featuring bean soup, cornbread, and classic West Virginia pepperoni rolls!

Awards and Medals

Both the Half and 5K include a finisher medal and top finisher medals in the following age groups:

• Age Groups: 0-12, 13-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+.
• Gender: Male AND Female
• Email: Racers are responsible for reading the racer email provided one week before the race.
• Details: Exact times and locations will be included in the email.
