West Michigan Latino Health 5k Walk/Run

Purpose

• Focus: With a focus on health and wellness promotion, the West Michigan Hispanic Chamber of Commerce held its first Annual Latino Health 5K Run/Walk in September of 2015.
• Goal: The goal was to encourage Hispanic families to maintain a healthy lifestyle and incorporate physical activity, such as running or walking, into their daily lives.
• Community Health: The WMHCC believes that by showcasing the fun side of physical activity through a family-oriented 5K walk and run, participants can feel energized and prepared to continue striving toward better overall community health.
• Event Details: The run/walk begins and finishes at Roosevelt Park where we will have our Finish Fest. Food, free kids activities and awards ceremony until 12pm.

• Location: This walk/run starts and finishes at Roosevelt Park.
• Start Time: The walk/run starts at 9:00 am.

Why

• Health Promotion: A Health and Wellness promotion with focus on the Hispanic community that has higher instances of obesity, diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, and strokes.
• Chronic Diseases: The reason for highest amount of chronic diseases in the Hispanic community has been attributed to poor diets and lack of physical activity.

Volunteer Opportunities

• Positions: We offer a variety of volunteer positions and time slots.
• Incentives: Shirts and food are given to volunteers at the event.

Race Shirts

• Registration Deadline: Register by August 7, 2026 at midnight to guarantee your race shirt.
• Shirt Availability: Participants that register on or after August 8, 2026 are not guaranteed a shirt, available while supplies last.
• Age Requirement: Participants 13 and up will receive a shirt. Participants 12 and under may purchase a shirt and will receive a finishing medal.

Packet Pick-up

• Date: August 20, 2026 4:00pm-7:00pm.
• Location: Cesar E. Chavez Elementary School, 1205 Cesar E. Chavez Ave SW, Grand Rapids, MI 49503
• Race Day Details: Registration/pick-up starting at 7:00am, Roosevelt Park 739 Van Raalte SW, Grand Rapids, MI 49503.
• Note: Participants must be present to receive bib at packet pick up.

Please Note

• Walking: Walking the course is welcomed, but participants must complete the route within 90 minutes.
• Dress Appropriately: Weather conditions vary from year to year, so dress appropriately.
• Cancellation: In case of severe weather, event directors reserve the right to cancel without refund.
