Event Overview
- Purpose: The Wild Goose Chase is a celebration of women’s cycling and the incredible Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge.
- Scenery: Flat roads, little to no traffic, and expansive salt marshes that provide vital habitat for migratory waterfowl.
- History: Launched in 2008 by Georgena Terry as a fundraiser to protect the refuge, raising over $190,000 for the Friends of Blackwater.
- Ride Options: Rides available for women of all cycling levels (11, 19, 32, 50, and 63 miles).
Saturday Activities
- Basic Bicycle Mechanics: Hands-on experience with maintenance, including cleaning, adjustments, and flat tire repair.
- Nature Rides: Opportunities to observe bald eagles and migratory birds on guided rides.
- Bird Walks: Guided hikes by knowledgeable volunteers to explore the refuge’s avian life.
- Yoga: All-levels yoga class to prepare your body and mind for the ride.
Special Events
- Harriet Tubman Ride: A guided ride exploring places frequented by Harriet Tubman.
- Cycling Circle: Discussion session to talk about women in cycling.
- Gestural Sketching: Workshop focusing on watercolor techniques inspired by the natural beauty of Blackwater.
- Guided Kayak Tour: A guided water tour through Blackwater, including equipment provision.

- Wild Goose Chase Jersey: Specially designed jerseys available for pre-order until July 24, 2026.

Race Day Information
- Start Times: Soft start at 7:45 AM, with group starts at 8:00, 8:15, 8:30, and 8:45 AM.
