What is a Tunnel to Towers 5K Run & Walk?

• Purpose: The Tunnel to Towers Run & Walk Series was created to honor the heroic life and death of Stephen Siller, a New York City firefighter (FDNY) who lost his life on September 11, 2001 after strapping on his gear and running 3 miles through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel to the Twin Towers.
• Commemoration: We honor those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001 by supporting our first responders and military who make extraordinary sacrifices in the line of duty!

Local Details:

• Location: The Start & Finish Lines are at the Missouri State Capitol – at the South Steps.
• Year: The 2026 Jefferson City Tunnel to Towers 5K is in its 11th year, commemorating 25 years since the 9/11 attacks.

Race Information:

• Distance: This is a 5K (3.1 miles). You are welcome to walk or run this event.
• Timing Chip: Timing chips are not planned for our event in 2026.

Packet Pickup:

• Dates: Packet pickup will be Friday, 9/11/2026 from 3:00 – 6:00 PM at Red Wheel Bike Shop, 400 W. Main Street, Jefferson City, MO.
• Saturday Pickup: Packet pickup will also be offered on Saturday, 9/12/2026, from 7:00 to 8:15 AM, on the South Lawn of the Capitol, look for signs.

Registration Details:

• Day of Registration: Yes, online registration will remain open until 8:30 AM on Saturday, 9/12/2026.
• Online Closure: Online registration will close at 8:30 AM on 9/12/2026.

Parking:

• Availability: Yes, free parking is available on streets adjacent to High Street and Capitol Avenue.
• Note: A Labor Day parade is scheduled at 11 AM on Saturday, so parking in State lots may be limited.
• Details: More parking details will be sent to registered participants and posted on our Facebook page, closer to the event.

Race Requirements:

• Bib Number: Yes, please display your bib on the front of your outermost garment. Those who run without a bib will be asked to leave the course and will not be allowed to finish.
• Fast Runners: Runners predicting a pace faster than 6 minute/mile will be seeded in the front corral (arrive early).

Hydration:

• Water Stations: Yes, two water stations will be available along the route and there will be water available at the Finish Line.

Event Guidelines:

• Permitted Items: Strollers and wheelchairs are permitted. Firefighter turnout gear and military backpacks are also permitted.
• Personal Items: Please leave all personal items and valuables in your vehicle. Tunnel to Towers Foundation will not be responsible for the loss of any items.

Donations & Fundraising:

• Registration Fees: Your registration fee does not count toward the fundraising goal.
• Team Donations: Donations will be accepted for 6 weeks after the event.
• Sponsorship: We accept in-kind and monetary donations for our event. Please email Roxy Van Pool, at jeffersoncity@t2t.org or call 573-690-3078.
• Fundraising Page: Once you are registered, you will be given directions to start your own fundraising page and will be able to accept donations online.

Refunds & Transfers:

• Refund Policy: We do not provide refunds for the event if you cannot make the date or if the Tunnel to Towers Foundation needs to cancel the event for extenuating circumstances.
• Registration Transfer: We prefer not to transfer your registration to another participant, but contact us if you have circumstances that prevent you from participating.

Receipts:

• Online Registration: When you register online, by credit card, you will automatically receive a receipt by email.

• Availability: Yes, there will be an Emergency Medical Service team available on site.

Pets:

• Leash Requirement: Yes, but all pets must remain on a leash, at all times.
