🏃♂️ The Race with Grace 10K
Why RwG 3.0? The Race with Grace (RwG) 10K was established in 1991 as an outgrowth of the participation of several men in the Spencerport Canal Days races during the mid-1980’s. It had a two-fold purpose, the more important one being a community outreach. Secondarily, it was a play on the current Pastor’s name, George Grace, who was a runner.
- Inaugural Year: In our inaugural year we had 185 registrants and 171 finishers.
- Peak Attendance: Our attendance peaked in 2015 when we celebrated our silver anniversary race with 1245 registrants and 1121 finishers.
- Total Participation: Over the race’s 31-year existence, a total of approximately 5,000 individuals have participated.
- Dedicated Runners: Five men remain who have finished every single RwG and ran virtually in 2020: Stan Cipira, Bob Dyjak, Dave O’Leary, Ric Perry, and Doug Ralph.
It has consistently been named one of NY’s finest races by New England Runner magazine. In addition, it has been recognized as one of the cornerstone races in the Rochester Runner of the Year series. All proceeds, once race expenses are deducted, go to support C.U.R.E. Childhood Cancer Association. With the current race director stepping down due to work and family obligations, no clear choice for a successor, the race’s future appeared to be at a crossroads. Thankfully, as the “door” on the race was quickly closing, the Rochester Running Company and Lakeshore Community Church agreed to manage and host this year’s race.

Given that the majority of the new course is actually run on the same roads as the original course, and it’s the third route in the event’s history, it will be affectionately known as RwG 3.0. Now with its 3rd course, its core values, fundraising, and overall community involvement remain the same. We welcome you all back with a new course map and new host location as we look to continue this Thanksgiving day tradition for many more years to come.
