Donuts and Dogs 5K Fun Run/Walk

Event Overview

Join us for a fun day at Southwind Park in support of the Animal Protective League (APL).

Race Details

• Date: June 13, 2026
• Location: Southwind Park, Springfield, IL
• Registration Fee: $30 for adults, $15 for children 12 and under
• Fundraising: Set up your own individual or team fundraiser to raise additional money for the animals

You can also sign up as a cat napper for $30 and receive a personalized thank you card from an APL dog or cat! Register by May 22nd to receive a free race t-shirt.

Registration Information

• Closing Date: Registration closes at midnight on June 11th
• Packet Pick-Up: June 12th from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at APL, 1001 Taintor Road
• On-Site Registration: There will be no on-site registration.
• Limited Packet Pick-Up: Available on the day of the race.

Running with Dogs

If you want to race with your dog, they need to be sociable, well-behaved, up-to-date on all vaccinations, have proof of current rabies vaccine, be leashed at all times and be at least four months of age.

Activities

• Costume Contest: An exciting contest that you and your pet can participate in.
• Vendors: Various vendors will be present at the event.
• Fun Activities: Additional activities to enjoy.
• Donuts: Mel-O-Cream donuts will be provided before the race for all participants.

Schedule

• May 22nd: Early Registration with Free T-shirt ends.
• June 11th: Registration closes at midnight.
• June 12th: Race Packet Distribution 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. at APL.
• June 13th: Race Day with multiple activities throughout the day.

• Overall 1st Place 5K Female: Award for the top female finisher
• Overall 1st Place 5K Male: Award for the top male finisher
• Overall Canine: 1st Canine across the finish line
• Overall 1st Place 12 and Under Female: Award for the top female finisher under 12
• Overall 1st Place 12 and Under Male: Award for the top male finisher under 12

Costume Contest

Best Costume award for the best-dressed participant and their pet.
