SARR Great Greenway Marathon Relay

🏃‍♂️ Race Overview

Get ready for 2026! We are going back to the original course, starting at Mainland and ending at McAllister. Still 26.2 miles but more downhill. Records will be broken!

🏞️ Coursing Through the Greenway

• Location: Celebrate the Howard Peak Greenway System in San Antonio.
• Distance: Cover 26.2 miles on a scenic, shaded course along the Leon and Salado creeks.
• Team Structure: Teams can consist of 2 to 5 runners, with various competitive categories.
• Relay Legs: The marathon relay has 5 legs ranging from 4.5 to 6.5 miles.

📍 Relay Points

• Starting Point: Mainland Trailhead off Bandera Road.
• Hand Offs: Relay 1 at Fox Park, Relay 2 at The Rim, Relay 3 at 1604, and Relay 4 at Walker Ranch.
• Finish Line: McAllister Dog Park Trailhead with celebrations and medals.
• Instructions: Complete map and instructions will be provided for each team.

🎉 Registration Information

• Registration Fee: Fee is per person: all team members must register separately.
• Age Requirement: Participants must be at least 14 years old.
• Reserve Early: The race has sold out the last three years: early registration is advised.
• Shirt Distribution: Guaranteed to the first 500 registrants before January 15th.

🏆 Awards

Awards will be given for top 3 teams in the following categories:

• Junior: Ages 14-20
• Open: All Male, All Female, Mixed
• Masters: Age 40+ (All Male, All Female, Mixed)
• Super Masters: Age 50+ (All Male, All Female, Mixed)

Non-Binary: Only first place team awarded. Note: All Mixed categories must have at least 2 females per team.

Additionally, there is an Award for the team with the best team shirts.

📋 Race Rules

• Verification: All members eligible for awards must be verified by race officials.
• Baton: All runners must carry the team baton during their leg(s).
• 5th Leg: Runner must wear the red race bib/number.
• Disqualification: Teams with a runner using a stroller or pet will not be eligible for awards.

📦 Packet Pickup

All packets MUST be picked up at one of the dates below. THERE WILL BE NO RACE DAY PACKET PICKUP.

• Who: Choose one person to pick up for your relay team.
• Pre-Race Packet Pickup:
  • January 30th from 4-7 p.m. at REI, 11745 I-10 Suite 110, San Antonio, TX 78230
  • January 31st from 12-3 p.m. at Fleet Feet San Antonio - The Quarry, 7322 Jones Maltsberger Rd #152, San Antonio, TX 78209

⏰ Race Timing

TIME LIMIT: There will be a 7-hour time limit on the marathon and marathon relay course.

Race Start Time: 7:00 AM

Race Cutoff Time: 2:00 PM

Water Stops: Water coolers will be located at each Relay spot and various parks along the way.

💰 Discounts

Register early: SARR members receive a 25% discount with online registration thru 1/11/26. Runners age 20 or younger and age 70+ get a 50% discount, while active/retired military receive a $5 discount.
