Sound the Alarm 5k

🚨 Information

• Course: Sound the Alarm 5K race/walk is a gentle out and back course on Madison Pike through historical portion of Independence, KY. Elevation changes along the course are less than 45.
• Ceremony: Opening ceremonies begin at 8:10 am, the run/walk race starts at 8:30 am.

📦 Packet Pick Up

• Location: Independence Fire District, Company 1, 1980 Delaware Crossing, Independence, KY
• Date & Time: Friday, September 26th, 10 AM – 5 PM. Race Day packet pick up at race site 7:30 AM - 7:45 AM.
• Note: There is no race day sign up. Shirts and bibs can be picked up that morning for those unable to pick them up on Friday.

🏃‍♂️ Age Groups

• Categories: Male and Female AND runners/walkers
• Age Brackets: Under 15 / 16-20 / 21-25 / 26-30 / 31-35 / 36-39 / 40-45 / 45-49 / 50-54 / 55-60 / 61-64 / 65 and older

👕 T-shirts

• Availability: Shirts and bibs can be picked up that morning for those unable to pick them up on Friday.
• Sign Up: There is no race day sign up.

💙 Mission

• Aim: The mission of the Sound the Alarm 5K Run/Walk is to provide awareness and financial support to the men and women of the first responder community.
• Fundraising: This year's race will help raise funds for the families of Firefighters, Police Officers, and Emergency Medical Staff providers who are killed in the line of duty.
• Partnerships: The Independence Professional Firefighters Union Local 3945 is partnering with Hickory Grove Baptist Church to assist Supporting Heroes this year.

🦸‍♂️ Supporting Heroes

• Overview: Supporting Heroes is a Louisville Kentucky-based company that takes care of families of those who have given the ultimate sacrifice.
• Immediate Support: They present a $5,000 'emergency funds' check to financially dependent survivors typically within hours of the death.
• Ongoing Assistance: Supporting Heroes commits to providing additional emergency funds and ongoing financial support while assisting in obtaining benefits.

🏁 Race Day Information

• Start Time: All participants will start at 8:30 AM, no corrals: faster pace runners start towards the front, walkers line up in the back.
• Virtual Race: Participants will receive a shirt/medal by mail following the live race day. A digital race bib will be available to download and print.
• Course Completion: All participants have 90 minutes to complete the course. After that time frame, everyone will be asked to move to the sidewalk.
• Staggered Start: If numbers of participants deem, a staggered start will be conducted based on experience and running/walking ability: otherwise, a one-time start will occur.
