Information
- Race Name: Sound the Alarm 5K race/walk
- Date: 2026-09-26
- Location: Independence Fire Station No. 1, Independence, KY
- Course: Gentle out and back course on Madison Pike through historical portion of Independence, KY. Elevation changes along the course are less than 45’. Opening ceremonies begin at 8:15 a, the run/walk starts at 8:30 am.
Packet Pick Up Location
- Location: Tri-State Running Company, 148 Barnwood Drive, Edgewood KY 41017
- Schedule: Friday, September 25th, 10 – 7pm. Race Day packet pick up at race site from 7:15 am - 8:00 am.
- Note: There is no race day sign up.
- Shirts and Bibs: Can be picked up that morning for those who cannot collect them on Friday at Packet Pick Up.
Age Groups
- Categories: Male and Female runner/walkers
- Age Divisions: Under 15/16-20/21-25/26-30/31-35/36-39/40-45/45-49/50-54/55-60/61-64/65 and older
- Overall Prizes: Awarded to the top three men and women, determined by gun time.
- Age Group Prizes: Determined by chip time, given to top finishers in age group categories for men and women runners. Overall winners are not eligible for age group awards.
T-shirts
- Distribution: There is no race day sign up.
- Shirt and Bib Pickup: Available that morning for those unable to pick them up on Friday at Independence Fire District.
Mission
- Objective: The mission of the Sound the Alarm 5K Run/Walk is to provide awareness and financial support to the men and women of the first responder community.
- Fundraising: This year’s race will help raise funds to provide financial support to the families of Firefighters, Police Officers, and Emergency Medical Staff providers who are killed in the line of duty.
- Partners: The Independence Professional Firefighters Union Local 3945 in partnership with Hickory Grove Baptist Church will assist Supporting Heroes.
- Support Provided: Supporting Heroes presents a $5,000 ‘emergency funds’ check to the most immediate financially dependent survivor - typically, within a few hours of the death.
Additional Information
- Participation: All participants will start at 8:30, no corrals: faster pace runners start towards the front, walkers line up in the back.
- Virtual Race: Participants will receive shirt/medal by mail following race day: a digital race bib will be available to download and print for participants who want one.
- Time Limit: All participants have 90 minutes to complete the course: after that, everyone will be asked to move to the sidewalk to finish the race.
- Swag Bags: Included with race registration. There is no race day sign up.
