The Gail Borden Public Library District Foundation and the U-46 Educational Foundation have partnered to create an extraordinary race and fall season for this community. On Saturday, October 18, El Trote De Las Calacas (the Skeleton Trot), a USTF certified 5K race (and walk) steps off amid music and fanfare at 9 am on a course that begins at the Gail Borden Public Library at 270 N. Grove, Elgin, Illinois.

👥 Group/Team Registration

• Multi-person registration: Available for 4 people or more. A discount will be applied. Shirts are an additional purchase.

🏁 What is El Trote De Las Calacas/The Skeleton Trot?

• Event details: A USATF-certified 5K race (and walk) held Saturday, October 18, stepping off at 9 am, starting at the Gail Borden Public Library.
• Course route: The race winds through Elgin’s historic northeast neighborhood and scenic bike path along the Fox River.
• Community support: Showcases community diversity while raising funds for School District U-46 and the Gail Borden Public Library District.
• 501(c)(3) organizations: Both partners are registered nonprofit organizations.

• Open to all: Yes! The race is open to participants of all ages, ability levels and backgrounds.

🤝 Volunteers

• Volunteer roles: Needed for registration, packet pickup, refreshments, course marshals, and more.
• Sign up: Interested volunteers can visit gailborden.info/volunteer to sign up.

📝 Registration Info

• Online registration: All participants must register online here.
• Goodie bag: Participants will receive a specially designed shirt and a unique bib number, along with additional items such as a medal on race day.
• Packet pickup: Will be announced soon.

⏱️ Race Timing

• Timed bib: Participants will receive a timed bib that automatically records results when crossing the finish line.
• Registration deadline: Last day for registration is Friday, October 3, with no same-day registration available.

📩 Email Requirement

• Email address: Every person 18 years of age and up must provide an individual email address.
• Waiver form: Participants must sign a waiver form: minors need an adult to register and sign for them.

🚼 Strollers and Pets

• Strollers: Yes, participants can walk/run with children in strollers.
• Pets: No pets allowed, but service dogs are permitted.

💵 Refund Policy

• No refunds: Sales are final and there are no refunds.

🏅 Awards

• Participation medals: The first 600 finishers will receive a medal.
• Top finishers: The first place male and female finishers will receive an award.
• Age categories: Awards will be given for first place in various age categories for both male and female participants.
