Hokie Half Marathon and 5K

Race Overview

COME TO BEAUTIFUL BLACKSBURG, VIRGINIA THIS FALL AND RUN WITH THE HOKIES! It is the fourteenth year of the Hokie Half Marathon and 5K! It will take place Sunday, September 20th, 2026. So come join us and earn your 14th anniversary Hokie Bird finisher medal. We have live bands, beautiful scenery, terrific race support, and some awesome race swag!

Race Info

• Registration: You can register for the 2026 Hokie Half Marathon & 5k on this website or by mailing a hard copy form to RunAbout Sports.
• Participant Limit: The Hokie Half Marathon is limited to 2000 participants and the Hokie 5K is limited to 500 runners and walkers.
• Race Start Time: 7:30 am for the half marathon and 8:00 am for 5K.
• Average Temperatures: 55 degrees at start time: 61 degrees at 10 am.

Registration Fees

• Online Registration Closes: 09/18/26 at 7 pm: Paper forms accepted until 8 pm on 9/19/2026 at packet pickup.
• Hokie Half Marathon Options: Prices vary based on registration date.
• Hokie 5K Options: Different pricing levels for with or without a finisher medal.
• Virtual Race: Includes shipping, finisher medal, and participant shirt for both half marathon and 5K.

Cancellation and Transfer Policy

• Non-Refundable: Registration fees are non-refundable.
• Transfer of Bib: Allowed until September 14th, 2026.
• Next Year Transfers: Allowed until September 13th, 2026.
• Race Changes: A $10 fee applies unless transferring from half to 5K with a medal.

Awards

• Overall Awards: Male and Female prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places.
• Age Group Awards: Awards for top finishers in various age divisions.
• Half Marathon Finisher Awards: Medals for all finishers (excluding "no medal" option).
• 5K Awards: Given to top finishers: medals only for registered participants.

Packet Pick-Up Policy

• Date: Saturday between noon and 8 pm at the University Mall.
• Friend's Packet: Allowed with a note and a copy of their ID.
• Race Day Pick-Up: Available for a $10 fee.
• Location: University Mall, follow the signs.

Event Expo

The Expo will run from noon until 8 pm on Saturday, September 19 - the same hours during which packets can be picked up. The Expo will have merchandise for sale, including running shoes, race nutrition, and apparel!

Race Day Parking

• Shuttle Service: Buses will shuttle athletes and spectators from Virginia Tech’s Chicken Hill parking to the start/finish area.
• Parking Passes: Distributed at packet pick up.
• VT Yearly Parking Pass: Not allowed at Chicken Hill Lot for visitors.
• Alternative Parking: Parking A at VT Corporate Research Park.

Course Details

• Time Limit: Four-hour limit for the half marathon participants.
• Course Map: The 2026 course will be the same as in previous years, certified by USATF.
• Complimentary Entries: Available for those achieving specific standards on a certified course.
• Complimentary Hotel Rooms: Limited availability based on achieving standards.
