Hokie Half Marathon and 5K

Event Overview

COME TO BEAUTIFUL BLACKSBURG, VIRGINIA THIS FALL AND RUN WITH THE HOKIES! It is the fourteenth year of the Hokie Half Marathon and 5K! It will take place Sunday, September 20th, 2026. So come join us and earn your 14th anniversary Hokie Bird finisher medal. We have live bands, beautiful scenery, terrific race support, and some awesome race swag!

Race Information

• Location: 1715 Pratt Dr #1000, Blacksburg, VA
• Registration: Register online or by mailing a hard copy form to RunAbout Sports.
• Participants: Limited to 2000 for the Half Marathon and 500 for the 5K.
• Start Times: 7:30 am for the half marathon and 8:00 am for the 5K.

Temperature Averages

• Start Time: 55 degrees.
• 10 am: 61 degrees.

Registration Fees

Online Registration Closes 09/18/26 at 7pm. Paper forms will be accepted until 8 pm on 9/19/2026 at packet pickup at the University Mall.

Hokie Half Marathon

• Level One: $89 Before 8/14/2026.
• Level Two: $98 8/14/2026 - 9/14/2026.
• Level Three: $110 9/15/2026 - 9/19/2026.
• No-Frills Option: $75 Before 8/14/2026, no participant shirt or finisher gift.

Hokie 5K

• No Medal: $33 Before 8/14/2026.
• With Finisher Medal: $48 Before 8/14/2026.
• Price Levels: Increase to $42 for No Medal and $57 for With Medal on 9/15/2026.

Virtual Race

Virtual Race - Hokie Half Marathon and/or 5K (includes shipping, Finisher Medal, participant long sleeve shirt, finisher gift and finisher magnet for the half marathon). Price Level One: $85.00 ($57.00 for 5K with medal) Before 9/20/2026.

Cancellation and Transfer Policy

• Fees: Registration fees are NON-REFUNDABLE.
• Transfers: Allowed until September 14th, 2026.
• Races: Change races for a $10.00 fee (exceptions apply).
• Next Year: Transfers available until September 13th, 2026.

Awards

Hokie Half Marathon Awards

• Overall Awards: 1st place: $500, 2nd place: $300, 3rd place: $200.
• Age Group Awards: Top three male and female finishers in various age divisions.
• Finisher Medals: All finishers (excluding "no medal" option) receive a medal.
• Award Pickup: Awards must be picked up at the finish line.

Hokie 5K Awards

• Top Finishers: Awards for the top three male and female finishers in age groups.
• Medals: Only for registered participants who signed up for the medal option.
• Award Pickup: Similar rules apply as for the half marathon.

Packet Pickup Policy

• When: Saturday between noon and 8 pm at the University Mall.
• Friends: You can pick up a friend’s packet with a note and ID.
• Race Day Option: Packet pickup available on race day for $10.

Event Expo

A small expo will be held at the University Mall where packet pickup occurs. Run from noon until 8 pm on Saturday, featuring merchandise for sale including running shoes, race nutrition, and apparel!

Race Day Parking

• Shuttle: Starts at 5:30 am from Virginia Tech’s Chicken Hill parking.
• Parking Passes: Distributed at packet pickup.
• Visitor Parking: Chicken Hill lot for visitors only.
• Alternative Parking: Parking lot B is 1.5 miles away.

Course Information

• Time Limit: Four-hour limit for the half marathon, closing at about 11:30 am.
• Finish Line: No finisher awards after the limit.

Course Maps

The 2026 course will be the same as the past few years and is certified by USATF.

Complimentary Entries

Available for anyone achieving specified Half Marathon standards within the last year.

• Men: Sub 1:08:00.
• Women: Sub 1:20:00.

Complimentary Hotel Rooms

Available for those meeting faster Half Marathon standards on a certified course within the last year.

• Men: Sub 1:05:00.
• Women: Sub 1:16:00.
