Hokie Half Marathon and 5K

🏃‍♂️ Race Overview

COME TO BEAUTIFUL BLACKSBURG, VIRGINIA THIS FALL AND RUN WITH THE HOKIES! It is the thirteenth year of the Hokie Half Marathon and 5K! It will take place Sunday, September 28th, 2025. So come join us and earn your 13th anniversary Hokie Bird finisher medal. We have live bands, beautiful scenery, terrific race support, and some awesome race swag!

🗓️ Race Info

• Registration Methods: You can register for the 2025 Hokie Half Marathon & 5k on this website or by mailing a hard copy form to RunAbout Sports.
• Participant Limits: The Hokie Half Marathon is limited to 2000 participants and the Hokie 5K is limited to 500 runners and walkers.
• Start Time: 7:30 am for the half marathon and 8:00 am for 5K.
• Temperatures: The average temperature at the start time: 55 degrees. The average temperature at 10 am: 61 degrees.

💲 Registration Fees

Online Registration Closes 09/26/25 at 7pm. Paper forms will be accepted until 8 pm on 9/27/2025 at packet pickup.

🏅 Hokie Half Marathon

• Price Level One: $85 Before 8/20/2025 (deadline is 11:59 pm August 19th)
• Price Level Two: $95 8/20/2025 - 9/19/2025 (deadline is 11:59 pm Sept. 19th)
• Price Level Three: $100 9/20/2025 - 9/27/2025 (no race day registration)

🚫 Hokie Half No-Frills Option

• Description: Only receive Hokie Bird Finisher Medal and finish line food. NO participant shirt or finisher gift.
• Price Level One: $70 Before 8/20/2025
• Price Level Two: $75 8/20/2025 - 9/19/2025
• Price Level Three: $80 9/20/2025 - 9/27/2025

🏃 Hokie 5k (NO Finisher Medal)

• Price Level One: $32 Before 8/20/2025
• Price Level Two: $36 8/20/2025 - 9/19/2025
• Price Level Three: $40 9/20/2025 - 9/27/2025

🥇 Hokie 5k (WITH Finisher Medal*)

• Price Level One: $45 Before 8/21/2024
• Price Level Two: $50 8/21/2024 - 9/20/2024
• Price Level Three: $55 9/21/2024 - 9/28/2024

🖥️ Virtual Race

• Description: Includes shipping, Finisher Medal, participant long sleeve shirt, finisher gift and finisher magnet for half marathon and shipping, short sleeve shirt and finisher medal for 5K.
• Price Level One: $80.00 ($55.00 for 5K with medal) Before 9/28/2025
• Virtual Period: The virtual option will be from September 22nd to Sept 30th to complete the half marathon and 5K.

📜 Cancellation and Transfer Policy

• Non-Refundable: Registration fees are NON-REFUNDABLE.
• Transfer Deadline: We do allow the transfer of your bib number to someone else as long as it is done by September 15th, 2025.
• Email for Transfers: Please email RunAboutSports@gmail.com to transfer.

🏆 Hokie Half Marathon Awards

• Overall Awards: 1st place male and female: $500: 2nd place: $300: 3rd place: $200
• Age Group Awards: Awards for top three male and female finishers in age divisions.
• Finisher Awards: All finishers of the Half Marathon will receive a Hokie Bird Half Marathon finishers medal.

🥈 Hokie 5K Awards

• Awards: Hokie Bird medals for top three male and female finishers in age groups.
• Medal Requirement: Only those who register for the 5k finisher medal will receive one upon completion.

📦 Packet Pick-Up Policy

• Location: Please ensure you will be able to pick up your packet on Saturday between noon and 8 pm at the University Mall.
• Friend Pickup: You are allowed to pick up a friend’s packet with their note and a copy of their ID.
• Race Day Add-On: Select the race day packet pickup add-on for $10 if unable to pick up on Saturday.

🎟️ Bib Numbers and Timing Chip

• Timing Chip: The racing bib numbers will have a disposable timing chip.
• Participant Name: Each bib will have the participant’s name or nickname.

🏢 Event Expo

There will be a small expo at the University Mall where packet pick up will also occur. The Expo will have a wide range of merchandise for sale, including a variety of Virginia Tech gear and apparel and all things running!

🚗 Race Day Parking

• Shuttle Service: Buses will shuttle athletes and spectators from Virginia Tech’s Chicken Hill parking.
• Parking Passes: Parking passes will be distributed at packet pick up.

🚶‍♂️ Dropping Off a Runner

If you are dropping off a runner, you can drop them off at the Virginia Tech Airport directly across from the start/finish area.

⏳ Course Time Limit

Please remember the Hokie Half Marathon has a four-hour time limit for participants. The course will close at 4 hours. Those who did not finish within the four-hour cut-off can still participate in the post-race food and festivities.

The 2025 course will be the same as the past few years. The course is certified by USATF.

🎁 Complimentary Entries

Complimentary entries are available for the 2025 Hokie Half Marathon for anyone achieving the following Half Marathon standards on a certified course within the last year:

• Men: Sub 1:09:00
• Women: Sub 1:22:00

🏨 Complimentary Hotel Rooms

A limited amount of complimentary hotel rooms will also be available on a first-come-first-serve basis for anyone achieving the following standards:
