Hokie Half Marathon and 5K

Event Overview

COME TO BEAUTIFUL BLACKSBURG, VIRGINIA THIS FALL AND RUN WITH THE HOKIES! It is the fourteenth year of the Hokie Half Marathon and 5K! It will take place Sunday, September 20th, 2026. So come join us and earn your 14th anniversary Hokie Bird finisher medal. We have live bands, beautiful scenery, terrific race support, and some awesome race swag!

Race Info

• Registration: You can register for the 2026 Hokie Half Marathon & 5k on this website or by mailing a hard copy form to RunAbout Sports.
• Participant Limits: The Hokie Half Marathon is limited to 2000 participants and the Hokie 5K is limited to 500 runners and walkers.
• Start Times: 7:30 am for the half marathon and 8:00 am for 5K.
• Average Temperatures: The average at start time is 55 degrees: at 10 am, it is 61 degrees.

Registration Fees

• Deadline: Online Registration Closes 09/18/26 at 7pm: Paper forms will be accepted until 8 pm on 9/19/2026 at packet pickup at the University Mall.
• Half Marathon Pricing: Price Level One: $89 Before 8/14/2026: Price Level Two: $98 8/14/2026 - 9/14/2026: Price Level Three: $110 9/15/2026 - 9/19/2026.
• No-Frills Option: Receive Hokie Bird Finisher Medal and finish line food only. Price starts at $75 before 8/14/2026.
• 5K Pricing: Price Level One: $33 Before 8/14/2026: Level Two: $37 8/14/2026 - 9/14/2026: Level Three: $42 9/15/2026 - 9/19/2026.

Cancellation and Transfer Policy

• Non-refundable: Registration fees are NON-REFUNDABLE.
• Transfers: Bib number transfers allowed until September 14th, 2026.
• Next Year Transfers: Allowed until September 13th, 2026.
• Change of Race: A $10.00 fee applies unless transferring from the half to the 5K with a finisher medal.

Awards

Hokie Half Marathon Awards

• Overall Male and Female: $500 for 1st, $300 for 2nd, $200 for 3rd.
• Age Group Awards: Top three male and female finishers in various age divisions.
• Finisher Awards: All Half Marathon finishers (excluding the “no medal” option) will receive a Hokie Bird Half Marathon finisher medal.

Hokie 5K Awards

• Age Group Awards: Top three in male and female finishers in specified age groups.
• Finisher Medal: Only those who register for the 5k finisher medal will receive one upon completion.

Packet Pick-Up Policy

• Location: Packet pick-up on Saturday between noon and 8 pm at the University Mall.
• Friend’s Packet: You may pick up a friend’s packet with a note from them and a copy of a picture ID.
• Race Day Pick-Up: Available for $10 if you cannot pick up on Saturday.

Event Expo

There will be a small expo at the University Mall where packet pick up will also occur. The Expo will run from noon until 8 pm on Saturday, September 19 - the same hours during which packets can be picked up. The Expo will have merchandise for sale, including running shoes, race nutrition, and apparel!

Race Day Information

• Parking: Shuttle buses will run from Virginia Tech’s Chicken Hill parking area every 10 minutes starting at 5:30 am.
• Drop Off: Runners can be dropped off at the Virginia Tech Executive Airport.
• Course Time Limit: The half marathon has a four-hour time limit.
• Course Maps: The 2026 course will be the same as in previous years and is certified by USATF.

Complimentary Entries

Complimentary entries are available for the 2026 Hokie Half Marathon for anyone achieving specific time standards on a certified course within the last year:

• Men: Sub 1:08:00
• Women: Sub 1:20:00
