Scranton Half Marathon

🏃‍♂️ Event Overview

The 12th edition of the Scranton Half Marathon will take place on Sunday, April 6, 2025, beginning and ending at PenFed Credit Union Field at Memorial Stadium. The goal of the race is to provide a superior event highlighting the local area and in doing so, bring increased exposure and revenue for local businesses.

• Half Marathon Run: 8:00 AM
• Half Marathon Walk: 6:45 AM

✨ New for 2025 - Run/Walk Category

We're pleased to offer a new run/walk category for the half marathon. Please select this option when registering if you plan on doing a combination of both running and walking on the course. As a run/walker, you will start at 8 AM with the run and will be timed as a runner. If you will be only walking the course, please select the Half Marathon Walk tab when registering. Run/walkers will also be held to the Elm Street cutoff time below.

🚫 Elm Street Cutoff Time

In the interest of safety and to allow city streets to reopen as scheduled, the race course will remain open to all participants who reach the Elm Street trailhead of the Lackawanna River Heritage Trail (roughly 7.5 miles) by 10:15 AM. This would be an 18:00 minute per mile pace for runners and a 28:00 minute per mile pace for walkers. Those participants who are unable to meet the 10:15 AM cutoff time will be directed to turn right onto the Lackawanna River Heritage Trail and will not be able to complete the full 13.1 mile course and their finish time will not be recorded.

🚷 5k Run Cutoff Time

In the interest of safety and to allow city streets to reopen as scheduled, there will be a 50 minute cutoff time for all participants in the 5k. This would be a 16 minute per mile pace. If you are unable to finish the race in this timeframe, your time will not be recorded.

🌍 Virtual Half Marathon

• Distance: Run or walk the half marathon distance wherever you'd like between April 3 and April 6, 2025.
• Submission: Submit your time to scrantonhalfresults@gmail.com to be included in the virtual results
• Cost: $55 and includes bib, finisher shirt, medal, and finisher gift
• Swag Pickup: During expo hours on Friday, April 4 from 5 to 8 PM or Saturday, April 5 from 11 AM to 5 PM: if you live outside of the NEPA area, your race swag will be mailed to you during the week of April 7, 2025.

🚶‍♀️ Half Marathon Walk

• Start Time: Begins at 6:45 AM.
• Timing: Fully chip timed.
• Finishers: Receive Half Marathon Medal and Finisher's Gift.
• Awards: To the Overall Male and Overall Female finishers.

This is a walk only, and participants are not permitted to engage in running during the event if registered for the walk. Walkers must stay on the sidewalks until the lead police vehicle comes by at which point the course will be fully secure. Please note that due to course safety restrictions, the Doherty Double is not walk friendly.

👶 Kid's Fun Run

Participants will receive a bib, and finisher medal. The 1/4 mile runs will start at approximately 8:15 AM on race morning. The 1/2 mile runs will follow the conclusion of the 1/4 mile runs. Please note that all participants must be off of the infield by 9 AM to ensure the safety of participants from the kids fun runs as well as the half marathon.

• 5K: 3:00 PM (Saturday, April 5)
• Half Marathon Walk: 6:45 AM (Sunday, April 6)
• Half Marathon: 8:00 AM (Sunday, April 6)

The Doherty Double consists of both the 5K run only on Saturday, April 5, and the Half Marathon run only on Sunday, April 6: walkers are not permitted to sign up for the Doherty Double.

Friday, April 4 at the Race Expo from 5 to 8 PM, and Saturday, April 5 at the race expo from 11 AM to 5 PM. Also available on race day at Scranton Memorial Stadium from 6:00 to 7:30 AM.
