Swim for Alligator Lighthouse

🏊‍♂️ Race Overview

• Challenge: The 8-mile swim to Alligator Lighthouse is a challenge. It’s not for the faint of heart.
• Experience: Participants swim 4 miles, circle Alligator Lighthouse, and swim 4 miles back.
• Teams: The event is open to solo swimmers, 2 person, 3 person, and 4 person teams.
• Support: Every solo or relay team requires a support kayak.

🎨 How It Started

• Inspiration: World Renowned Artist, Lighthouse Larry decided to swim to Alligator Lighthouse and back, alone and self-supported.
• Community Response: His friends thought he was crazy, but he encouraged others to experience it too.
• Event Creation: The Fighting Manatee Swim Club accepted the challenge and has made the event a reality.
• Establishment: The Inaugural Swim for Alligator Lighthouse was presented in 2013 and is now a permanent fixture.

• Date: 2026-09-12
• Location: 80001 Overseas Hwy, Islamorada, FL.
• Kayaking: Solo swimmers will need to enlist a kayaker to accompany them the entire race.
• Relay Dynamics: Relay groups will alternate kayaking with swimming.
