Walk/Run Like MADD

🏃‍♂️ Event Overview

The 2025 Gallup Walk/Run Like MADD event will provide participants an opportunity to honor those lost by drunk driving crashes, bring awareness to the issue, and also enjoy a competitive run or a non-competitive 2-mile walk in the fresh air, surrounded by the majestic red rocks and beautiful scenery of Church Rock, NM. The event also will host a competitive, timed 5K and 10K run.

💵 Registration Fees

• Law enforcement (2-mile walk, 5k, or 10k): $25 individually ($125 for a team of 5 people)
• Walker - Adult: $25
• Walker - Youth (5-18): $20
• Dog - 2-MILE WALK ONLY: $10.00 (must be on a leash at all times)

🚶‍♀️ 2-Mile Walk Details

• Course: The 2-mile walk course is on pavement and suitable for strollers and wheelchairs.
• Team Participation: Participants are welcomed and encouraged to form teams and walk in unity for their family members who have been impacted by a drunk driving crash.
• Starting Time: The 2-mile walk will start at 8:40 a.m. and is an out-and-back course.
• Event Materials: Tents, your own T-shirts, signs and pictures can be displayed at the event.

🏅 5K and 10K Race Details

• Timings: The 10k will start promptly at 8:30 a.m. and the 5k will start promptly at 8:35 a.m.
• Course Length: The 5k course is exactly 3.1 miles, and the 10k participants will run the course twice.
• Awards: There are awards for 1st-3rd place in each age group, male and female, and 1st – 3rd overall, male and female.
• Timing: The 5k and 10k runs will be timed by Rocky Mountain Timing Company, with each runner receiving a bib with a timing chip.

👮‍♂️ Law Enforcement Teams and Traveling Trophy

• Entry: There will be a separate Law Enforcement competition for the 5k only.
• Team Composition: Teams of 5 must include all certified police officers from the same agency.
• Traveling Trophy: The winning team takes home the “Traveling Trophy” (Customized UFC Belt!).
• Registration: Law enforcement can also register individually for the 5k, 10k, or 2-mile walk.

🌦️ What to Expect

• Weather: Dress for changing weather! Average temperature: high of 73F low of 43F in Gallup in September.
• Aid Stations: There will be aid/water/gatorade stations at the 1.5-mile mark.
• Atmosphere: There will be music at the starting line, signs by local high school students, and great encouragement along the way.
• Awards: Results will be available immediately after each race, and awards will start at 10:45 a.m.

📅 Day Before Event

• Online Registration: Ends at 2 p.m. on Friday, September 14, 2025.
• On-site Registration: Available on Saturday morning from 6:30 am -8:00 am for the 5k and 10k.
• Packet Pick-Up: For pre-registered participants at Camille's Sidewalk Cafe, 306 S. 2nd Street, Gallup, NM on Friday, September 12, 2025, from 4 p.m. - 7 p.m.
• Cash or Card: Please bring the exact cash amount or debit/credit cards accepted.

⏰ Event Schedule

• 7:35 a.m.: Welcome and announcements, Posting of the Colors, Pledge of Allegiance.
• 8:10 a.m.: “Warm-ups with the minions”.
• 8:30 a.m.: 10k Race begins.
• 8:35 a.m.: 5k Race begins.
• 8:40 a.m.: 2-mile walk begins.
• 10:45 a.m.: Awards & Closing Announcements.
