What is the Heat the Streets Run & Walk for Warmth?
- Event Options: Heat the Streets Run & Walk for Warmth offers participants the opportunity to register for a timed 5K run, timed 10K run, or untimed two-mile walk. We also offer a virtual option if you're unable to join us in person.
Why do we do it?
- Community Support: Since 2007, Metropolitan Utilities District and Omaha Public Power District have teamed up to host this annual event, with proceeds benefiting local utility assistance programs to help friends, family, and neighbors in our communities pay their utility bills.
- Awareness: The event is hosted in the cold winter months to bring attention to those who struggle to keep the lights on and heat their homes. However, utility assistance is a year-round need.
- Fund Management: Funds raised are administered by Dollar Energy Fund, Inc., a registered 501(c)(3), and then split between M.U.D.’s Home Fund and OPPD’s Energy Assistance Program.
- Mission: Dollar Energy Fund's mission is to improve the quality of life for households experiencing hardships by providing utility assistance and other services that lead to self-sufficiency.
