Race Description

• Unique Experience: This spectacular 5k race is conducted entirely on the frozen Rio Grande.
• Scenic Views: Take in the majestic views of the San Juan’s to the West and Sangre de Cristo’s to the East.
• Recognition: Runner's World Magazine named this race one of three "editor's picks" for running enthusiasts for 2015.
• Timing and Awards: Chip timing and unique “ice-themed” awards enhance this special race for runners of all abilities.

Backup Racecourse

• History: In its 11-year history, an alternate racecourse has been used four times due to unsafe ice depth.
• Backup Location: The alternate racecourse utilizes the 30-acre pond at Blanca Vista Park.
• Levee Trail: A portion of the levee trail system is also included for the 5k.
• Amazing Views: Regardless of the course, participants will enjoy great views while running on ice or snow.

Footwear Recommendations

• Suggested Shoes: Participants should consider running shoes with microspikes for safety and speed.
• DIY Option: A DIY version of microspikes is recommended. Watch this video to improve traction on your shoes.
• Alternative Footwear: Hiking boots or other shoes with extra tread are also recommended.
• Safety: Proper footwear is essential for a safe running experience on icy surfaces.

Race Packet Pickup

• Chip Timing: This is a chip-timed race, and participants will receive race bibs and chips.
• Pickup Locations: Pickup is available at Knee Knockers Bar & Grill on January 23rd and at the Alamosa Senior Citizens Center on race day.
• Pickup Times: Friday from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and race day from 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.

Race Shirt Information

• Shirt Availability: Please note that race registration does not include a shirt.
• Purchase Option: Shirts may be purchased separately for $15 during registration.
• Preorder Deadline: December 31, 2025.
• Event Availability: After the deadline, shirts will only be available at the event while supplies last.
