2025 Preventive Medicine Initiative: Heart & Sole 5K

🏃‍♂️ Race Overview

Everyone says exercise is important, but let's be honest: it's easier said than done. Join us for the 2nd Annual Preventive Medicine Initiative (PMI) 5K, where we're not just talking about the importance of exercise – we're showing you how to make it a part of your life! Last year, we took 224 participants from the couch to the finish line, and this year we’re excited to run it back. This year, the 5K will be in-person and conclude with a finisher festival where you will receive free snacks, drinks, games, and FUN! The PMI 5K is more than just a run/walk: it's a celebration of community, health, and making lasting lifestyle improvements.

👟 Community Support

We understand that for some, taking that first step toward an active lifestyle begins with a simple yet essential element – a pair of shoes. That’s why, this year, a portion of our donation funds will support the Mobility Clinic at UTMB:

• Mission: Dedicated to working closely with the Galveston community.
• Impact: Ensuring underserved individuals have access to proper footwear & footcare.
• Achievements: Completed three shoe drives and donated over 600 pairs of shoes as of December 2023.

💻 Virtual Participation

For individuals who are unable to participate in-person, we are offering a virtual option:

• Registration: Includes a virtual bib.
• Packet Pickup: Opportunity to pick up a packet the week before the race.
• Finisher Items: All registrants will be able to pick up their finisher stickers and prizes while supplies last after the race.

📅 Important Details

There is a limited number of spots available. If you cannot attend the event on March 8th, 2025, please consider:

• Shirt Sales: Purchasing a shirt and/or making a donation.
• Funding: All donations and proceeds will fund future PMI community projects.
• Registration Deadline: Closes on February 24, 2025, or when all spots have filled.
• Shirt Pickup: Will be announced closer to race day: unclaimed shirts will be recycled.

We will announce the dates of 2 beginner friendly training sessions in collaboration with Run Club at UTMB:

🚶‍♀️ Participant Guidelines

This event is public, and participants do not need to be residents of Galveston or be affiliated with UTMB:

• Strollers: Permitted on the race course.
• Pets: Not allowed on the race course but welcome at the finisher festival.
• Consolation: Folks, please give your furry friends plenty of pets as consolation.
