🚴♂️ Event Overview
The RCDCU Annual Bike-A-Thon takes you through the scenic back roads of Franklin Twp. Cyclists can choose between 10, 30, or 50-mile routes.
🎗️ Purpose of the Event
- Goal: Raise awareness of prostate cancer and the importance of early detection, screening, education, and nutrition.
- Beneficiary: Funds raised will support Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, RWJ Barnabas Health at Somerset, and the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey.
- Statistics: Over 20,000 men were diagnosed with prostate cancer last year: over 2 million American men are currently living with the disease.
- Importance: As men age, the risk of developing prostate cancer significantly increases.
🛤️ The Bike Routes
The RCDCU Bike-A-Thon begins and ends at the Franklin Township Community Center, 505 DeMott Lane, Somerset, NJ, promptly at 8:00 AM.
🚶♀️ 3 Mile Fun Ride/Walk
- Location: Starts at the community center along a paved path to Quail Brook Park on New Brunswick Road.
- Family Friendly: A great way to get the whole family involved in the event.
🚴 10 Mile Ride
- Memorial Ride: Named the Robert "Cozy" Merrits Memorial ride in memory of a beloved board member.
- Route: Takes you through quiet neighborhoods of Franklin Township and into reserved open space land.
- Rest Stop: A full rest stop is located at the Community Baptist Church on DeMott Lane.
🌳 30 Mile Ride
- Challenging: Takes you through quiet neighborhoods into beautiful Colonial Park and along the historic Delaware Raritan Canal and Millstone River.
- Rest Stops: Full rest stops in both Colonial Park and at the halfway point at Griggstown Fire Station #35 on Canal Road.
- Sustenance: All rest stops are fully stocked with water, energy bars, and fruit.
🚵♂️ 50 Mile Ride
- Advanced Route: For seasoned cyclists, follows the beginning of the 30 Mile route and continues along the Delaware Raritan Canal and Millstone River.
- Historic Area: Takes you through parts of the historic Rocky Hill section of Somerset and routes traveled by General George Washington into Kingston.
- Rest Areas: Fully stocked rest areas at Community Baptist Church, Colonial Park, and historic Griggstown Fire Station #35.
- SAG Support: Supported by a fully stocked SAG vehicle.
🍽️ Post-Ride Festivities
Whether riding or walking, as a team or a single person, you won't want to miss the opportunity to "Ride/Walk Your Way To Fun And Fitness" and support a very important cause.
A delicious buffet lunch will be served at the end of the ride, along with presentations of awards. All routes will have SAG vehicles available to assist if needed.
