Purpose of the Event

• Cause: Proceeds will go to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
• Multiple Sclerosis (MS): An autoimmune disease that breaks down the covering of nerves.

Understanding Multiple Sclerosis

• Types of MS:
  • Relapsing-remitting: Symptoms flare up and recede.
  • Secondary-progressive: Gradual symptoms that may or may not recede.
  • Primary-progressive: Gradual onset with no remission.
• Common Symptoms: Fatigue, numbness, trouble walking, vision problems, and pain.
• Diagnosis Time: Average diagnosis can take up to 2 years.

Physical Therapy and MS

• Role of Physical Therapy: Helps strengthen muscles and improve mobility.
• Benefits: Enhances walking ability, balance, and coordination.
• Quality of Life: Improves independence for those diagnosed with MS.
• Limitations: Physical therapy cannot cure MS, but it can enhance life quality.
