Understanding Multiple Sclerosis
- Types of MS:
- Relapsing-remitting: Symptoms flare up and recede.
- Secondary-progressive: Gradual symptoms that may or may not recede.
- Primary-progressive: Gradual onset with no remission.
- Common Symptoms: Fatigue, numbness, trouble walking, vision problems, and pain.
- Diagnosis Time: Average diagnosis can take up to 2 years.
Physical Therapy and MS
- Role of Physical Therapy: Helps strengthen muscles and improve mobility.
- Benefits: Enhances walking ability, balance, and coordination.
- Quality of Life: Improves independence for those diagnosed with MS.
- Limitations: Physical therapy cannot cure MS, but it can enhance life quality.
