Big Tex Backyard Ultra

🏃‍♂️ Race Overview

• Event: The Big Tex Backyard Ultra takes place at Stephen F. Austin State Park in San Felipe.
• Location: The park offers a large grass area for personal aid setup around the group dining hall screen shelter.
• Trail: A network of wide, well-maintained trails, primarily crushed gravel, with minimal elevation change.
• Date: The race is scheduled for 2026-11-07.

🏅 Race Format

• Last Runner Standing: A "last runner standing" format with a 4.17 mile "yard" starting every hour, on the hour.
• Eligibility: 2026 is a Bronze Ticket race for the 2027 Silver Ticket Races and beyond.
• New Division: Introduction of the Last Rucker Standing division on a shorter course.
• Race Swag: Participants will receive a Big Tex hoodie and a customized poster with their completed yards stamped.

🥇 Awards and Prizes

• Buckle: Runners completing 24 yards will receive a 100mi buckle.
• Cash Prize: The winner earns a dollar for every mile they run: the second-place finisher earns a dollar for every yard completed.
• Patches: Ruckers will receive a Big Tex Backyard Ultra patch, in addition to race swag.
• Support: Fully stocked aid station support will be available for all participants.

📜 Backyard Format Rules

• Course Length: 100 miles divided into 24 hours provides 4.167 miles for each "yard" (lap).
• Warnings: Participants will receive a 3-minute, 2-minute, and 1-minute warning before the next yard.
• Disqualification Policy: Failure to line up in the starting corral will disqualify the runner.
• Aid Restrictions: Once on the course, no external aid is allowed.

🚫 Additional Rules

• Restroom Use: Competitors may leave the course only for restroom use: they cannot leave otherwise until each loop is completed.
• Aid Regulations: Runners must carry their own aid: no artificial aids are permitted.
• Final Lap: The overall winner of the Last Runner Standing must complete one more yard than everyone else.
• Check-Out: Runners must check out with the race director if they cannot complete a yard or choose not to start the next yard.
