Event Overview
Welcome to the 10th year of Bull of the Woods Trail Races in Taos Ski Valley, New Mexico! In 2026, we are excited to host two different half marathons, one full marathon, and NEW THIS YEAR a 10K course!
Course Highlights
- Full Marathon and TSV Half Marathon: Will take you to Kachina Peak at 12,481ft, followed by a climb to Fraser Peak at 12,168ft.
- Northside Half Marathon: Primarily tight single-track course on Northside trail system for maximum trail-fun and big-trail-views.
- New 10K Course: About 1.2K on mountain roads leading to singletrack trails, featuring close to 2,000 ft in elevation gain.
- Trail Beta: Designed to maximize your trail running experience through alpine forests, meadows, and scenic overlooks.
Elevation and Scenery
- Starting Point: Approximately 10,000 ft elevation with ascents to 12,163 ft Fraser Peak and 12,481 ft Kachina Peak.
- Sensory Experience: Take in views of the Wheeler Peak Wilderness, La-Cal Basin, Lobo Peak, Gold Hill, and Wheeler Peak.
- Kachina Peak Marathon/Half Marathon 1: A high-alpine course starting at the Taos Ski Valley Ski Resort, with a hands-on-knees climb to Kachina Peak.
- Descent: Enjoy over 7,000 feet of climbing, followed by a fast descent down Highline and West Basin Ridges.
Post-Race Experience
- Refueling: Full marathoners will refuel at the base before crossing over to the pristine single track of Northside Trails System.
- Final Views: Gaze across the valley from Fraser Peak to where you once were at Kachina Peak.
- Winding Tracks: Fast descending, winding, secluded single track leading to the finish.
- Satisfaction: Enjoy the best trails and stunning views of Northern New Mexico!

Volunteers will be coordinated by the Enchanted Circle Trails Association (ECTA) and a portion of the event proceeds support ECTA's efforts to develop, maintain, and promote trails regionally.
