Proceeds: The proceeds from this race will contribute to a scholarship fund in honor of Cpl. William B. Fulks and support this local Marine Corps League Detachment in its pursuit to serve veterans of our community.
Tribute: This trail event is an annual tribute to this local hero who was assigned to the 2nd Reconnaissance Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.
Background: On May 1, 2006, Cpl. Fulks was wounded while conducting combat operations in Anbar Province, Iraq by an improvised explosive device (IED) which detonated beneath his Humvee near Fallujah.
Legacy: The blast inflicted second and third degree burns along with internal injuries. Cpl. Fulks succumbed to his wounds on Thursday, May 18, 2006.
Race Details
Registration: Please register online with the links provided on this page for the discounted price. Race day registration will still be available for $40.
Swag: T-shirts, participation medals, and swag bags for all participants.
Location: The events will start by the new Huntington Federal Shelter at the back of the bowl which is a 10 minute walk from the parking lot at Hurricane City Park.
Guidance: Signs and volunteers will direct participants from the Hurricane City Park parking lot to the start/finish line.
Additional Information
Registration Area: Registration will be located by the shelter and start/finish line in the back of the bowl.
Safety: BE ALERT when crossing the railroad tracks as you walk towards registration and when leaving. Crossing guards will be present to assist you.
Facilities: Portable restrooms available at the start/finish line.
Ceremony: There will be a ceremony and briefing at 8:45 AM and all races start at 9:00 AM.
Ruck Race Requirements
Packing: A rucksack with a ruck plate (or equivalent) in your rucksack.
