Simsonian 5K Kick-Off Classic #23

After 23 years, we know that running is in our DNA, and since we are still striving to be our best selves, we all need time to nurture our bodies and souls. We have the perfect race for you. The 23nd annual Simsonian 5K Kick-Off Classic will again offer both an in-person and virtual race option for all to enjoy. The Grosse Ile “tradition” and traditional in-person race will be held Saturday August 16, 2025, at Grosse Ile High School 7800 Grays Drive on beautiful Grosse Ile, Michigan.

🕒 Race Schedule

• Fun Run/Walk Start: Begins at 8:30 a.m.
• 5K Race Start: Starts at 9:00 a.m.
• Course Features: Fast, flat course with views of the Detroit River.
• Finish Line: Track of the refurbished Grosse Ile High School stadium.

🎉 Post-Race Celebration

Runners receive a coveted T-shirt, DJ’d after race party, refreshments, and great raffle prizes (must be present to win).

🌍 Virtual Race Option

For those who cannot join us in-person, the Friends of Sims are offering the wildly popular alternative – the Virtual Race experience, with the window of competition from August 1, 2025 to August 16, 2025. You can use your GPS to map your 5K and run, walk, or crawl your own race, at your own place, at your own pace. You just enter your final time on August 16, and you’re all set. If you are not able to participate in the live or virtual events, please consider clicking the “Donate” button and help support this most worthy cause.

🏅 Memorial and Purpose

The 23th Annual Simsonian is held in memory of beloved teacher and coach, Steve Sims, who died unexpectedly of a dissecting aortic aneurysm in 2003 at age 47. All proceeds from the races, virtual or live, go to the Grosse Ile Educational Foundation Steve Sims Leadership scholarships given to an outstanding male and female scholar/athlete at GIHS. To date, more than $60,000 have been awarded throughout race history.

💰 Registration Costs

• Virtual Race Registration: $30 (includes postage and handling) for all ages and categories.
• In-Person Participation:
  • Children ages 10 and under: $10
  • Students 18 and under: $20
  • Adults: $25
• Late Registration:
  • 10 & Under: $15
  • Students: $25
  • Adults: $30

🏆 Awards

Awards for In Person Race: 5K first male/female overall. Gold, Silver, Bronze each Male/Female age group 12 & under: 13-16: 17-20: 21-29: 30-39: 40-49: 50-59: 60 & over.

📅 Package Pick-Up

Package pick-up will be at the GIHS Track House on Saturday, August 16, 2025, beginning at 7:15 a.m.
