Event Overview

The Mt. Rose Hill Climb is a fundraiser for Washoe County Search & Rescue, a non-profit team that provides year-round technical Search and Rescue services to the Washoe County community and surrounding mountains, rivers, lakes and deserts. Learn more about WCSAR

Race Details

• Date: September 12, 2026
• Location: Mt. Rose Trailhead, Reno, NV
• Course: 10+ miles, out-and-back course following the Mt. Rose Summit Trail to the spectacular 10,776' summit of Mt. Rose
• Terrain: Entirely on single-track mountain trail with staggered start for spacing

Participation & Awards

• Challenge: Test your strength and endurance with a 2,398 vertical feet climb
• Categories: Prizes for top three finishers in each category, as well as the overall fastest runner to the summit
• Support: Enjoy fresh air, exercise, and beautiful scenery
• Fun Fact: Event timed by volunteers, please be courteous

Additional Details

Important Dates

• Packet Pickup: Information TBA. Check back soon!
• Race Day: Arrive between 6:30am and 7am
• Race Start: 7:30am-8:30am (Staggered start)
• Awards Ceremony: 10:30pm with periodic raffle drawings

Parking Information

• Carpool: Please carpool if possible due to limited parking
• Parking Zones: Limited to dirt lots by the paved parking area
• Drop-off: Be prepared to be dropped off or park further up the road
• Walk to start: If you park further, be prepared to walk to the race start

Aid Stations

• Self-sufficient: Be prepared with water and snacks
• Water-only Stations: Two stations that all participants will pass twice
• Station Locations: Waterfall Aid Station at mile 2.5 and 7.5: Upper Aid Station at mile 4 and 8
• Water Supply: If we run out of water, we cannot refill

DNF Procedure

If you need to drop out of the event for any reason, please notify the nearest aid station or start/finish line volunteer. We will initiate a search for any participant who is not accounted for at the end of the day. This uses up important resources that may be needed for emergencies elsewhere.

Weather Preparedness

Please check the weather ahead of time and be prepared. The event will be held rain or shine, except for extreme conditions or safety concerns.
