🏃‍♂️ Race Day Details

• Date: September 20, 2025
• Start Time: 9:00 am sharp
• Location: Missouri Headwaters State Park – one mile south of Trident and about 6 miles northeast of Three Forks, MT.
• Directions: Take Exit 278 off I-90. Follow signs to Headwaters State Park and Trident. Parking is limited. Please carpool.

📍 The Course

• Length: Approximately 7 miles, with the first mile and a half on a paved/gravel country road.
• Trail Conditions: The remaining 5.5 miles are on mostly rugged trails, suitable for cross-country running.
• Railroad Crossings: There are two crossings, with a crossing guard present at the first.
• Course Marking: The trail is marked with rock cairns, flags, stakes, skulls, bones, and beer bottles.

🌊 Water Crossings

• Crossing 1: Under the railroad bridge, with muddy conditions.
• Crossing 2: The Gallatin River, with water potentially waist deep.
• Safety: A safety rope will be secured across the river.
• Extra Clothes: Bring an extra change of clothes for the awards ceremony and refreshments.

🏆 Awards and Prizes

• Special Prize: First 50 runners to beat "John Colter" to the Beaver Dam (approximately 6.5 miles in).
• Finish Awards: Overall top male and female, age group winners, youngest and oldest runner.
• Recognition: Special awards for participants deserving recognition.
• Post-Race Party: Join us for a barbeque with beer and live music!

⚠️ Important Information

• Insurance Requirement: Race bibs cannot be given or sold to others.
• Participant Limit: We are limited to 300 participants! Registration opens on April 1, 2025.
• No Refunds: Entry fees are non-refundable if you cannot run the race.
• No Roll Over: We do not have a roll over option from last year.

📋 Cancellation Policy

• Extraordinary Circumstances: If we must cancel for fire or pandemic, we will refund 50% of the entry fee.
• Donation Option: You may elect to donate your entry fee to Headwaters State Park if the race is canceled.
• Race Assurance: We promise to do everything to hold the John Colter Run this year.

🚫 Race Regulations

• Walkers: Walkers are not permitted due to time constraints.
• No Dogs: No dogs allowed on the race course.
• Water Station: There will be one water station approximately 4 miles into the run.
• Weather Policy: Race will not be canceled due to rain or snow.
